Not true at all. I got out of the plumbing business because of the money. Those guys will slit your throat just to get business. Looks gravy but it's really a cut throat business to be in.

Anyone recently get an invite for an interview? Seems kinda quiet lately.

But then you would actually have to work.

I'm building a house and every single sub that shows up complains about how little they are getting.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the state with the highest dollar value from welfare is Hawaii, with the max being around 49 K per year. The numbers haven't changed much since 1995, by the way.

The facts that I've seen regarding a college degree, which are easy enough to find, show that for a person between the ages of 25-32, a high school grad earns 62 cents for every dollar a college grad earns. The employment rate for a college graduate is also higher. College isn't some sort of cure all, and you can certainly find exceptions, but it does provide more opportunities for people than just a high school diploma.
You have the same info I have, you need to think about the taxes, housing assistance you don't get, medical benefits you have to pay for, and costs associated with having a job.

Gross pay of a college grad is much higher, however, take home pay with overall benefits, is about the same as someone who doesn't take the time to go to college.

Big money jobs require you to be either a licensed professional, or in business for yourself. Neither of these require a college degree, however for professions like attorney, doctor, etc, it is a prerequisite for their specific trade school.

As far as thread drift goes, you guys are getting bent out of shape for nothing. Delta has about 18K apps on file, and they need almost all of those pilots. So, everyone on this thread that applied, and is qualified, will get the call. It may take 5 years though. When you get the call, you absolutely need to go to a professional prep service.

Exactly. I can always tell the pilots on the forum who've never had a real job outside aviation... They think everybody is making a fortune laying brick, power washing sidewalks, wrenching on cars, etc. My Dad owned a carpet installation business, and a good friend of mine is a tech for a Toyota dealership. Not easy gigs! I worked as a mechanical engineer for five years, and every CA at my regional makes far more than I ever did, and more than my chemical engineer brother.

Your average 18-23 year old who doesn't go to college doesn't have much drive/ambition/skill/wisdom/knowledge to get out and get these "big money jobs" right out of the gate. Most 18-22 year olds who don't go to college are working min wage jobs and spending all of their money partying. Most college students don't have medical expenses because you stay on your parents plan until you are 23. For you to suggest that the average take home pay for college vs non college worker is about the same shows how far out of touch you really are on this. As someone else posted, over 30 years of working, the non college worker is about to make 60 cents on the dollar for his college counter part. Your rational on the matter is extremely short sighted.

You have seen the statistics, but they don't tell the whole story. The average high school drop out on government cheese is making just as much if not more than current college grads. Welfare right now pays the equivalent of a $70K a year job in benefits, and after 4 years of ObamaDon'tCare, it's going to creep into the six figure mark. Voting for a living is the future, and college grads are paying for it all.
This is about the most ignorant statement I have read here in a long time. You really don't have a clue do you?

When I went to CQ a few months ago, the instructor said they were putting 20-40 new hires on the 7ER out of DTW and NYC. I see them on the seniority list now.

Does anyone know if they are going to continue to do this, or was it a one time thing?

Sorry, my opinion stands, college is a scam, and I would not have wasted my time with it if I could do it again.

They would like to minimize new hires on the ER. If however not enough pilots bid the slots they will fill them off the streets.

I wasn't talking about your opinion on college. I was talking about this ridiculous statement that you made ...
