Yes, dual degree in engineering and math from one of the top schools in the country, and it was a hell of a lot of work for nothing of value. I've learned more from watching youtube videos. My favorite class was numerical methods using Fortran, which would be useful, if I could engineer a time machine back to the 1970's.

It's well documented and proven that when you average out college grad earnings vs high school diploma career earnings, the college grad far out earns the high school educated individual. It isn't even close.

This is the only value in college...except to get a piece of paper that says you passed some cookie cutter courses which are of little practical value.

They key is to look into the variables that define that average. 6 figure degrees in nothing where the vast majority of graduates don't find meaningful employability in their field, and no significantly gained income in any field, at ever exponentially increasing prices, tells the real truth far better than a blanket average. Even when someone makes more, plug the actuarials of 6 figures of crushing taken on the front end debt with interest and 4 years of lost earnings into the equation and the results are a staggering indictment of the racket that is modern Big Ed.

Then there's the trillion dollar bailout crisis we'll be seeing soon. That should be fun.

Maybe they don't have community service the last 5 years so they can raise twins and keep the wife from going instance. This is a horrible method in just assuming everyone is the same. Some of the smartest book people I have ever worked with or taught in life tend to be some of the dumbest when it comes to common sense. We all know that the captain with a 4.0 GPA vs a captain with a 3.2 isn't necessarily going to save the world. If the 3.2 guy is so much less then why hire them?

I get it, this all they can really go off of to go through the pool of applicants but to say that this determines the type of person they will always be is an extremely harsh judgement to make.
You've gone too extreme on what you think you understand about the hiring process. It is very straight forward and they look at the overall individual.

I had a 2.8 GPA in college and a degree in Philosophy with a minor in Geology. Not exactly ground breaking. I did graduate college with 1500 hours flight time and a couple hundred turbine, though. I was among the first to get hired in 2007, so the competition was pretty high.

They look at the big picture and don't go extreme on minutia.

Get in early, stay at the Hilton, get your shoes shined downstairs, have a beer, get a good night's sleep for $110...and in the morning walk across the street to the gate like you own the world!

Now back to the standard hiring questions...
Bingo! Hilton, good nights sleep, walk across the street. Drop a few bucks for the job of a lifetime. Worked for me circa 2001.

Pure silliness, and not borne out by statistics. Continue beating the drum, though, and it will no doubt be true.

I went to a "regular" college and commanded at the academy later in my career. I couldn't have hacked it as a college aged kid. Phenomenal education though. Free stellar education AND you get paid!

You don't really need hot chicks at USAFA...you live in Colorado, there's Colorado College, CU, and Denver....and a whole lot of hotties looking for a pilot.
