Flying is a trade, not everyone here went to college, but all of us went to trade school of sorts(flight school). We all have different degrees too, if you want to refute my argument.

You have seen the statistics, but they don't tell the whole story. The average high school drop out on government cheese is making just as much if not more than current college grads. Welfare right now pays the equivalent of a $70K a year job in benefits, and after 4 years of ObamaDon'tCare, it's going to creep into the six figure mark. Voting for a living is the future, and college grads are paying for it all.

Several pages of arguing about a hiring policy that is not going to change by a few instigators who just want to rant but never listen... is this the new LNG thread?

I apologize if this has been answered recently but I couldn't find it. What is the reserve callout time? And also is hotel paid for all of training? If not what are people doing for accommodations during training?
Thanks!

Call out time for long call is 12 hours. When you're on short call, you're required to be in the general area of your base and able to report "promptly." No specific amount of time.

You get a hotel for about the first two weeks of new hire training, after which you're on your own. No clue about crashpads. Sorry.

You get your hotel covered for Indoc, but you have to pay your way for training. When you get to Indoc, you can start looking for places...no point booking anything until you get your schedule. That will come about the beginning of week 2. Personally, I stayed in one of the local hotels. I'm not into communal living...but it is cheaper. The low-end hotels are going to be about $50/night, the Hilton/Marriott types are about $75 (not counting the big Hilton, which is about $110-$120). You can go home on two day breaks, so you're only paying for five nights/week in a hotel, not seven.

Try going to the GM, or other senior mgr, at the hotel and negotiating a long term stay rate. I did that in my past life (Navy) and ended up in much nicer places at greatly reduced rates. I.e., including a 4 week stay at a very nice place with a balcony overlooking Monterey Bay.

Welfare hasn't existed in over 20 years. You're watching too much Fox News.

Mesabah, I apologize for coming across as arrogant. That said, you post several opinions here as though they are facts. Where do you get your information? According to the Wall Street Journal, the state with the highest dollar value from welfare is Hawaii, with the max being around 49 K per year. The numbers haven't changed much since 1995, by the way.

The facts that I've seen regarding a college degree, which are easy enough to find, show that for a person between the ages of 25-32, a high school grad earns 62 cents for every dollar a college grad earns. The employment rate for a college graduate is also higher. College isn't some sort of cure all, and you can certainly find exceptions, but it does provide more opportunities for people than just a high school diploma.

After getting some work done on my house, I wish I'd gone into plumbing, electrician, or HVAC work. That's where the real money is. That education is a seriously good ROI.
