Which is a great thing for those willing to chase the upgrade. BTW, not chasing PIC time is an option you exercise AFTER you get a seniority number at the job you really want.

Get some PIC time, it really is that important now. I have heard without PIC time it is extremely difficult to get enough points to pass the interview.
I believe that is why some of the LLC's are more likely to hire somebody without PIC time than with. They now you are going to stick around longer and not by choice .

Friends of mine going to job fairs would get asked a few different questions, which kinda made it seem like the recruiters were slightly out of touch with what's going in the industry if coming from the civ/regional demographic;
FO gets asked, "No PIC time, have you thought of upgrading? How come you haven't yet?'
Never mind that at that time, they were on property 6-7-8 years, and STILL can't hold CA. Or;
"You're a CA, how come you're not a check airman?" Never mind that they've been there 8-9 years, and are one of the BOTTOM RESERVE CA's, their company hasn't hired LCA's in forever and/or has the policy that a reserve CA isn't eligible for LCA, etc.

It was kinda funny not long ago, like less than 2 years ago.

Intentionally bypassing to be senior in the right seat when you've never had any PIC time however…

That one is much harder to explain when your resume is already marginal.

I've read through much of this thread already, but just wanted to get some thoughts on my prospects.
Currently I'm sitting right seat at a regional where I’ve been for several years with no upgrade in sight and no TPIC. For TT I’ve got right around 4000hrs. I do have a bachelors and masters with both GPA’s around a 3.9; I finished my undergrad in 4 years and graduate in 2 years. During my undergrad I did an internship with NASA for roughly 2 years, so hopefully that looks favorable.
As far as volunteer work is concerned, I'm a FAAST (FAA Safety Team) representative were I put on aviation safety seminars in my community throughout the year.
Recently I was hired by my Alma mater (a state university) as an adjunct instructor teaching a night class, as well as simulator instructor for their aviation program.
I've got three internal recommendations, but I'm relatively young (26), not sure how they weigh this. I'm guessing its a liability.
Again, just looking for any feedback on what I can do to make myself more marketable while I continue to build experience. Thanks!

They are not allowed to ask or consider age in hiring determination as that would be age discrimination. My own class had a 57 year old who was not a flow through. While I have zero insight into the hiring department, overall I feel the company is compliant in both the letter and intent of the law. Based on this, I don't think your age will hurt you. Your lack of experience due to your age might be a detractor, but I'm pretty sure there are younger who have been hired.
