AK stated at WIA they have a minimum of 100 hrs recency experience in the last year as a minimum threshold. This of course is the minimum and more is preferred. He said there may be some situations where they allow less, but this is what they set the threshold at and is there to help the military guys out.
Here's exactly what AK said to a gent that asked a question at WIA similar to what you asking.
Guy asks "you mentioned 100 hrs is the minimum, but for pure civilian regions guys what is the preferred hours?" AK responds: "well for regional guys we would expect to see 400-500 hours knowing the type flying you guys do."
Guy responds "unfortunately sir due to being on reserve, I only flew 300 hundred hours last year, but dead headed over 100 hrs. Is this going to hurt me since I'm not at the 400-500 mark?"
AK responds: "you should be fine with that amount."
This is a question I was wondering to since I don block a lot on reserve as well. The problem is that AK stated a regional guy should get 400-500 hrs, but then he stated something different after the guy asked the question. so this leaves me to wonder if the guys like yourself, him, and me are really just being overlooked because of something many of us can't control?

Call in sick over a holiday or sit reserve and only fly 399 hours = no call for you! 2.9 GPA, fughedabowdit! But he said I "should be OK" so now he's waffling! What's going on?!?!?!?!?!
They know what they're doing. Currency is one of many things they look at. If its low relative to what they expect relative to your situation, they'll take a look at it. That's all.

He said should, expect, typical, etc. Y'all have got to stop taking things like that so literally.

But Gloopy, we're impatient! If we're not getting called, it's gotta be because of some unique situation on our apps

I completely understand what you are saying, but here is the delima for many of us. We have had our apps in for years (7+) and have been talking to so many and trying the networking approach to our best. We've also been to all the career fairs, conventions, etc and stood in line to speak to the Delta people. Some of us just want Delta so much that we have exhausted all we know how to. We've taken the upgrade at first grab, done admin, training, volunteering, etc. to get our resumes where they need to be. All the while others around us are getting the invite and some have more, but some have less experience. Several of these by the way aren't near as ambitious and could care less if the went to DAL, UAL, AA, SWA, etc.
I for one don't envy AK and his selection team at all because how do you choose a few at a time when there are so many to choose from?
We want to be on the side of the fence as guys like you looking over, but there are times when we wonder when it will come and when it does come how much seniority will we have lost.
My point was to state what was said. Truthfully if I hear that they are looking at something and they expect it from a certain group in the industry to have, but outside of our control we can't attain it, it is a little discouraging. At the conventions they say "just become a LCA", already tried that any and every way I know how - just won't happen due to a shrinking company.
Anyway, I and many wish it was different, but hopefully those of us who are deeply pursuing and been doing so for years will get noticed. I rest my case .

Still though, one look at the retirement based hiring numbers in the coming few years should look very good to anyone on the outside looking in.
As for the bolded, I highly suggest some professional prep. When the time comes, and it most likely will for you, airlines (especially DL) are very appreciative of that kind of go getter mentality. All airlines ask you questions that drive towards determining what you said in an applicant. Why us? When did you apply? What have you done besides fly the line? When your time comes you should be able to knock it out of the park.
Assuming you can balance the ball on the see-saw with your left hand while counting backwards with your right hand, or something. You know, just basic instrument flying skills

True but who wants to lose out on thousands of seniority #'s. Now is the time to get on because no one knows if we will be a 13,000 pilot airline 10-15 years from now. Could be 10,000 or could be 15,000. Every number counts.

I hear ya, I really do. I know its frustrating. It kind of sucks for us too (though to a lesser degree) as we almost all know someone that would like to get on, or at least get an interview. You used to be able to walk someone in and get them to the top of the stack. No more. There's some highly qualed guys that haven't been called yet.

Definitely right on the retiring numbers of course we've all heard about the "pilot shortage" for 20 years.
I know the way it will happen is I'll just look to see in my email what bill I have due in two weeks and finally it will be there. Then get to running the gauntlet of studying.
I do want to say thanks for all your posts! It's because guys like you take the time to help those of us on this side see in.

I'll ditto what Lear700 said, I always get excited when someone "in the know" like Gloopy (and a few other dudes whose names I can't remember) post because it nearly always contains very much appreciated words of wisdom.
