That is because you are never made "whole" for accepting the call. I had a friend who owned a software business and sat on a jury for almost a month. He lost tens of thousands of dollars from clients that he could not service the month he was gone and got paid like $15/day. He was treated like crap during the whole process and said he would do anything he could to get out if ever called again.
I don't care how much it costs to do it, its cheaper than the alternative, and lower than low to try to get out of it. It is truly one of the highest calls to service and one of the heaviest obligations in our society. Scamming to get out of it is lower than draft dodging.

That's a miniscule sacrifice to uphold the system we have. What if he's on trial one day? I bet he'd want the best jury pool he could get instead of many of his like minded peers scamming to "get out of it".
