I thought compass flows were supposed to have been done in October? Just curious

No, it was OTS Military and had gig elsewhere.

That kills me. I mean why accept the spot to no show? There are a ton of guys that could fill the spot if they decided to go elsewhere. At least show up and leave during training. Ok I'll quit griping and go back to swimming in the pool.

Sounds like you need to pick up a copy of the DBA. Otherwise known as the Delta Book of Acronyms.

I'd imagine the biggest difference will be getting the jet from the gate to the runway..after that it should be much more familiar. ......
FWIW, a good friend of mine who is former AF told me that the 2 major differences working for Delta are 1) there's no BS outside of the cockpit, ie, no paperwork queep/deskjob crap to worry about....you show up, you fly, pull up to the gate and say goodbye to the passengers and then grab your bag and go home, which sounds nice but..... 2) no real camaraderie. In an Air Force squadron (and I'm sure the same for Navy and Marine flying squadrons) you have camaraderie, a common mission, and you fly with the same guys over and over, etc. Almost none of that exists in a major airline. He said he's flown with a repeat/same Captain maybe a half dozen times in 15 yrs.

Bummer, because for 24 yrs I really liked that second part.

At least one person in my hiring group had multiple offers. One guy had a much earlier training date with United than Delta was projecting. That could be a possible reason for a no-show.

He's right. Once you clock out, you're done with work. Except for having to do CQ, but even that you can do at work. As for your point 2, no offense, but if I just spent anywhere from 2 to 12 days flying with someone, I'd like to go home and maximize my days off with my family. Remember, this is a just a job, not a calling, and the fact that a large number of pilots commute.
