That's the equivalent of 272,000. Not as far off from what we make as I thought it would be. |

His rate at the time was at least $158.21 (the 1986 rate). Adjusted for inflation to today, that would be $342.55. Assuming he only averaged 75 hours per month, that would be $308,295 for the year. Current 767 Captain rate is $219.62. Assuming 87 hours per month (the DALPA stated average for a line holder), it's $229,283.28. Still gotta add profit sharing but it still falls way short of $308K. And his $308K (adjusted to today's dollars) back in 1989 wasn't contingent on how much profit Delta made. And he didn't have to fly anywhere near as many hours. At 87 hours per month, he would have made $357,622 in today's dollars. At the 87 hour/month level, today's 767 Captain is at a $128K per year PAY CUT in buying power compared to a 767 Captain in the mid to late 1980's. |
AND...in 1986, he didn't have to -self fund- his retirement plan!
Oh, and in 1986, his medical premiums were ZERO, and the deductible was about $50! Let's not forget all the other expensive little 'gotcha's' in today's contract, in addition to the lost wages. |
Math in public: 158. an hour x 75 is 11850. x 12 is $142,200. In the 80's you were not going to fly more than 75 hours, even if you were bagging MoRon's daughter.....

So here we are again at square 1. The question to you is this: How much do you think we need on day 1, and how long are you willing to wait to get it?
