P.S. Aside from the contract issues things are pretty damn good at Delta now. I suspect some of the posters have never seen bad.
Edit My brain is fried from 767 procedures. I forgot that they resequence the numbers monthly. A quick look at Jan hires however showed 64 on the list. As of the 1 Apr list 63 remain. Attrition of exactly one pilot and I believe one pilot was fired so voluntary attrition of zero. Someone else can look up later months. The number 3 sounds good.
2nd edit: I forgot that the total new hire numbers numbers are posted in the pool thread. From 1 Jan to 24 Mar we hired 277 pilots. The 1 Apr seniority list shows 274 remained at that point. Total attrition 3 pilots 1 of whom was fired. The other two unknown.
Those new hire coordinators know some **** don't they!

With the order of more small jets, the A330 to VA scheme, and the only WB growth going to Joint Ventures (see the CEA thread), is Delta going to remain a solid international carrier? Or only a watered down domestic airline which feeds the JV's?
I'm seriously worried.
I'm praying that DAL remains a big boy airline..

Delta is trying to grow through partners and equity deals continuing the hub and spoke system at places like Beijing and Shanghia.
This is not too far removed from the money losing RJ experiment.... a total bust over the last decade. Delta will give all these airlines information on how to compete only to be cut out of the deal when the Chinese airlines (for example) decide to change the rules, push Delta out and go it alone. Delta will be the equivalent of US troops fighting against soldiers they trained in Iraq. By then more senior management will bail with their golden parachutes while the new set come in to try more experiments at the expense of long term employees. That's my two cents.

Subscribed. I'm trying to decide if I'm better off staying at Southwest and driving to work or leaving for Delta and commuting for the next 34 years of my life. Moving to a Delta base is not an option.
How long would it take a new hire today to hold the right seat of a wide body and have weekends/most holidays off at Delta? Widebody pay and days off look nice, but weekends and holidays off are more important to me so I'm curious with the lack of WB growth at Delta how long would it take a new hire to see the right and left seat of a WB with a good schedule?

Who knows what future growth will be like, past results will not be indicative of our future. However, it has taken my 10 years to go from 5100 to 10200 on our current list (No, I did not reverse those two). to go as a new hire now 13,000-7400 = about 5600 numbers. If I apply 5600 retirements to my current calculator it says I should be 5400 numbers more senior in the year 2024. Not kidding. In an effort for full disclosure, for me to get to approximately #7600 from where I am now, it will be 2021. Five more years, for a grand total of 15 years to get to mid seniority.

I had recurrent as a 75/76 domestic FO shortly after the PanAm merger was announced. Someone from the head shed came by to blow sunshine up our skirts by telling us about the massive growth on which we were about to embark. Said this time next year you wont be FOs! Sweet! He was right, one year later, I had been displaced back to the panel.
