40+% pay cut, loss of pension and medical premiums. However, as a DC9 FO in the 80's, every time I flew with certain guys, they were on a GS. And now I'm seeing a lot of swapping short trips for long trips.

OK, here goes.... 8 years ago I was a line holder on the 767-400. I'm now flying rubber dog poo on worn out 757s. This is now my retirement aircraft. 10 years ago I was destined to end my career on the 777. Not now. I was talking with crew resources during my transition back to the classic 75/76, and I mentioned how much my hourly rate was dropping. His answer was "yeah, but now you'll be able to fly more hours and make up the difference."
And there you have it. That enough of an upgrade complaint, or does that count as a downgrade complaint?

Just like with the Age 65 thing (which when polled, everyone was against!) I think removing the caps was an attempt to let guys try to replace the lost income from the bankruptcies. But just like the B scale American Airlines pilots came up with in 1984, PBS is spreading to all the other carriers, with management screaming they need it, to be competitive.

If we could restore our pay and retirement benefits to pre bankruptcy levels, then I think we should transition back to a 75 hour cap at that time.

Why ALPA National won't even talk about restoring what we had taken away from us in bankruptcy is beyond me.

The only rational reason I can see is to look at the past National President, where is he now?

Where are some of the other past President's of National?

Yeah.

this is why when the pollster called me for the third go around...my most important issue was NO concessions.....in any section of the contract.

The economic and work rule reality we face demands two things to 'recover' and restore for the future generation the value lost over the last 25+ years.....substantial improvements in every section....and safeguards to prevent eating our own.

this may take years. it may take a strike. some of us may not realize any economic benefit from this effort......but righting this ship will require that kind of commitment, and if necessary, sacrifice.

Hank....your recollection is probably correct...GS were assigned differently then, and absent pilot access to digital auditing....there were opportunities for all sorts of 'special' relationships with schedulers.

I flew the 757/767 for a long time. I flew with quite a few guys who voluntarily downbid from the 765 to the 7ER to make more money. They were happy to do so--as happy as you are depressed.

Not everyone must groupthink the same. Some guys fly the 777 or 765 and bid reserve and rarely if ever fly, except the sim every 90 days. Others cannot conceive of doing that.

Yeah maybe, but what about the guys have been here 15-17 years and have been complaining it for well .................about 15-17 years?

Yes times are good now, but if it took 15 years to get to the good times - that's 15 years lost.
