Anyone think profit sharing was once upon time viewed as a 'throwaway item'?

It sure was to the company when they thought they'd never have to pay out on it.

We have 14 month mainline captains and you want to waste money on RJ scope. Color me scary then.

Edit: And I never said anbything about 'giving it away'.

Thus fewer RJ pilots will be needed. Then they'll use those 76 seaters to replace A319's, A320's, 71's and 73's.

Two 76 seat RJ's have roughly the same capacity, (but more frequencies and a LOT more high-yielding first class seats) as a single 717 or 319. Three 76 seat RJ's will replace 737's, MD-80's and 320's and Delta will gain 3 times the frequency plus 24 additional first class seats.

Yes the DCI model (as it currently exists) IS failed. But that doesn't mean that they can't tweak it a bit and make it work again, IF YOU LET THEM.... at the cost of mainline jobs. They'll take as much as you'll let them have.
I agree, the 76 seat jets are going where the 50 seat jets used to go, and the 76 seat jets routes are being replaced by mainline. There will always be regional jets going into some of these small cities. There are at least 500-1000 pilots at every regional that won't go/get to mainline for whatever reason. You run the very real risk of having these pilots run to flag of convenience if you shut them down, same as Comair pilots running to alter ego Go Jet.

Do you not see that we have those very 14 month captains because we didn't capitulate further on RJ scope?

No change is cost neutral. Maintaining current SCOPE is neither a concession or a gain. Moving on.

Wait until we merge with Alaska and our number two B-777/B-747 captain gets merged in right behind their number one B-737/A320 captain and their #1 pilot becomes #2 on our entire seniority list.
Now that Alaska is merging with Virgin, is there an actual rumor that Delta is going to merge with Alaska? One would think the big three DL/UA/AA are now too big to merge with anyone else.

The next downturn could create synergy opportunities for struggling carriers.
