Bid for LAX base first. If you can't hold it, bid a combination of 717, 73N or 7ER.

How does vacancy bidding work? Is it several months in advance? I.e. If I get the AC type I want in the B drop, how soon before I could set foot in the new base assuming there's a corresponding type/base spot that I could hold in the following A drop?

Good thing for you is that the C Series is likely going to LA and SEA. When they post a vacancy for FO's on that in LA it will be a new category which means anybody can bid for it regardless of seatlock. So even if you get stuck with ATL 88 FO, you may not have to wait until your seatlock is up to bid for an LA spot. Now whether you can hold it or not will be anybody's guess, but at least the possibility is there.
