With the retirement system in place at the time combining it with the 757/767 would have resulted in a significant reduction in FAE's.
The only attempt with the combining the 767-400 was with the 777. The company never followed through on that because with the shift if the airframe to international it's a very efficient category with low credit.
And....more to the point, the 767-400 domestic category was 764 on bid packages and the int'l was 765 which is why the category today remains as 765.

That makes more sense, thanks! If the 767-400ER replaced the L1011 domestic category, what replaced the L1011 international category?

So is the 765 category strictly international now, or is it domestic too?

MD11's, 767Er's and 767-400. At one point we had 56 L1011's. Most of those domestic routes are now flown by 757's. We also had 36 domestic 767's. We are either down to 4 or will have only 4 shortly.

Not sure about "strictly" but let's call it primarily an int'l category?

Thanks! It's interesting to see how the routes have changed over time

Strong post.......Ill let United management know that the reason we trail Delta is because we fly the 767-400/300ER as a combined fleet.

If anything its a significant competitive advantage. Combining the category results in fewer pilots needed and lower costs.

The point I was making is that Delta is leading the pack when it comes to financial performance. They are not perfect and there is room for improvement but pointing out that United does something might not be proof positive that it's a good idea. I have no idea what method is more lucrative.
