At what point are new hires going to be phased out of getting initial MD88 assignments?

When there are no openings on it. If the rate of guys jumping off outpaces the 88's getting parked there will be openings to be filled.

So putting the cart WAY before the horse: I have a bad last SS # (lower than 1200). If I were to be assigned the 88 in ATL (more than likely based on the last 5-10 drops), what is the fastest way to getting assigned something in NY (where I live)? Or would I be riding out the 88 until they are totally parked?

You’d have to bid to different equipment after 12 months.

My guess is you'll be screwed. Probably have to wait the full year before partaking in an AE to shift to something new york-based

Or bid to the CSeries assuming it is a new category.....and, at the rate it is progressing, it might be "ahh-boot" 2020 when it becomes a new category, eh? 🤣

I was under the impression there is a 2 year seat lock on switching equipment. No locks on switching bases with same equipment

How is QOL on reserve in ATL on the 88? I’ve never had to commute, so it scares the crap out of me.

It's only one year if you switch to a base that doesn't have your current airplane. The cost is that you add on one more year to your new seat lock.

When do you start? Worst case is one year commuting. Could be even less if they start displacing the bottom guys during your first year.
