350 program about two years ago? 😁

Starting class in about a month. Trying to choose a preference between the 717, 220, 320, or the 73. Interested in opinions from each camp. Leaning towards ATL or SLC for the long term.

Specifically curious about flying qualities, upgrade times, relative ease vs difficulty in the training, and overall satisfaction with your assigned aircraft.

Thanks in advance!
There is no perfect fleet, everything has its tradeoffs. The 14k+ pilots on property naturally migrate based on the balance of all of the pertinent factors (seniority distribution, pay, quality of trips, rate of growth or shrinkage, commutibility, airplane desirability, etc) to ensure that there is no "hidden gem" fleet that has the best of everything. In general the 717 and 220 have less desirable trip quality and lower pay but better seniority, and 737 and 320 are better trips but worse seniority.

If you don't mind a lack of variety of layovers (though even that's slowly improving) then the 220 is a good choice and it'll probably get you out of NYC the quickest. That's probably what I'd bid if I was a new hire and wanted to get to SLC.

As for ATL, the 717 trips just look brutal, but then again the 320 and 737 have been seeing more 4 leg days as they take over 88 flying so maybe that's the way to go.

Not sure on this class, but honestly it’s been random.

In the 1/6 class, the 320s went last. In the 1/13 class, the 320s and the 88 went first (for the most part)

Like it’s been said, it really depends on the class. It changed week to week.

If you want the easiest, most laid back flying possible take the 220. Remember how you never had to look at your Jepps for your home airport? well the 220 out of NYC barely flies to more than 3 or 4 airports. I have the DFW and DTW freqs memorized.

Plus the airplane is so automated you rarely have to think, there are almost no flows, and I forget it sometimes it actually has certain systems, lol

Sounds boring. To each their own I guess.

still winding up.

28 of 95 airframes. And not to be too serious but I’ve been to 20 different cities on the 220 since I started on it last year. Yea it’s pretty automated, but it’s nice to handfly! Huge potential on the fleet as we get more airframes. and trips are pretty good. Mostly 1-3 leg days.

Completely agree. Once the A220-300s arrive we’ll likely see a lot more route diversity.

Still hoping Airbus will make the decision soon to move forward with the proposed A220-500 version and that Delta orders it to replace older MD-90s and A320s.
