Last fall on the DC9 I was doing that.......then I came back to the 320. Now it's fly this and DH that, and short call this and cover that. What's that, you needs 24 hours rest? No prob, here's a 24 hour SJC layover before you redeye back to ATL for a 12 hour layover, then a ATL-DTW leg. No you can't sit long call at home, we need you to DH to ATL so you can fly to SAV, overnight, then DH SAV-ATL-DTW.

But ya know what? I wouldn't trade it, because I love my job. Could things be improved? Sure, but we have a good thing going here with this merger and I hope the good times continue.

When a reserve pilot flies a trip, don't they get credit for less than a blockholder for many of their trips? Especially, if they deadhead or have short overnights, right?

I looked at a 2 day trip that was worth 10:30 for a REGular but only 4:30'ish for a REServe.

Maybe that has something to do with it.

Uhh, because he's at AS and I'm at DAL? And our schedulers are masters at taking us right to 70 hours and no more? Just a thought. Maybe when we buy AS I can be like your buddy.

That's exactly it New. Two guys flying the same trip, one reg, on res, get different credit. That's one of the problems with our reserve system. And I'm new to it. When I got pushed down from reg to res it was a huge pay cut.

Or, maybe you're just doing it wrong, buzz. I mean if an Alaska guy can get 88 hours on reserve, you should be able to figure out how to do it too.

I mean, being on reserve is all about total control of how much, when, and when you fly, right?

It was until the invention of RAW. It has a leveling effect that only allows a few guys to hit ALV in the busiest months.

One of the other issues in LA New is that its such a small base that there's not a lot of open time or ability to yellow or green slip. Even if the schedulers commit you for every available day through either a trip or a short call, there's really little flexibility to grab anything else.

Hopefully, LA will grow at some point. But in my time here its been very static.

I think it's because the flying that Buzz used to use to break 70 hours is now done by Alaska.
