Default Monthly Polling and Retirement

The admin is very, very careful about not asking questions they don't want the answer to in their monthly polling.

The questions are carefully crafted to guide you where they want you to go.

They were forced to ask retirement questions.

So they ask first, would you like the retirement in your own name? Knowing a vast majority will say yes. This all but kills any restoration of defined benefit.

The question should have been, would you like additional retirement money beyond our current defined contribution plan and the projected 17% contribution? (Which is the max we will get since we recently gave up our 18% position in the last round)

Then, if yes, what would be your first choice?

1) Annuity in your own name?

2) Combination defined benefit/contribution similar to FedEx and UPS?

Etc.

Full on jam down.

When we have a deal this polling will be sighted at the roadshows to show we only wanted 16% or 17% DC and nothing else.

Which is the opposite of the truth.

Notice they NEVER ask what percentage of DC is your minimum 1/1/16 if we have a DC only retirement?

The answer would be 22% plus by over 80% of the respondents.

That is why they NEVER ask this question..

Talk to your reps. Demand they ask these questions.

This polling is disgusting and manipulative.

The polling is awful. They craft the questions to get the answer they want. If they don't get the answer they want, the polling is "aspirational". What a load.

These guys live in an echo chamber bubble. I believe they will be surprised when the next TA gets resoundly voted down. They will look around like last time confused and then blame social media and the "vocal minority".

This whole thing with the AIPs, virtual basing, VEBA is a slow train wreck that apparently they can't see coming. "Polling tells us this is what the pilots want". Yeah right.

Why is the MEC doing such a poor job on the polling? Is the majority that inept? After all they do approve the questions.

Okay, so all who wanted the "hardline" and support the 12 MUST realize they are in fact the majority and have been for 4 or 5 weeks. They OWN the process now, they (you) have no one else to blame. Could it be that the inside and outside council, NMB and polling data are guiding them back to nearly the original positions they so abhorred??? You can't really have it both ways.

Yeah, you would NEVER be manipulative in your polling.

What a crock.

Since you are so damned smart, why don't you step up to do union work instead of continually dividing the pilots to achieve your agenda?

No MEC can manipulate your emails, calls, or visits. If people want to be heard, they don't need a biased survey to do it. I've never been polled and haven't been told the questions, but I'm led to believe the survey - while statistically relevant - carries enough leading questions to be irrelevant on the whole. I'm not surprised to hear that the direct messages reps receive are noticeably different and personally believe they are more reflective of the group's sentiment.

I agree that the questions can be manipulative. However, the reason we are voting on Clinton/Trump is precisely the reason that you describe above. Input is ALWAYS from the vocal minority. Those within the standard deviations, for the most part are silent, hence the 'silent majority'. That will never change. I don't know what the answer is. Perhaps the MEC should be changing the survey/poll questions based on the input received via email-phone calls, but to use those emails-calls as the basis for crafting a deal is stupid and I would imagine will result in a little more gridlock. Jerry will be ecstatic.

When certain parties have an agenda that doesn't line up with the majority of the pilots they'll find a problem with whatever solutions are implemented.

Talking to a rep in the lounge. He said that the key isn't only the data collected, but the interpretation of that data. As it's now always black and white. Who interprets that data? Certainly not only the MEC. I would think everyone has a go at that. That is, in his opinion, part of the problem.
