No past hatred PapaMike. I was a part of that rapid growth (2004 Hire that Upgraded in 2.5 years), but I don't ever recall 30 upgrades per month. That number is only sustainable through attrition and growth. Y'all have got the attrition thing going for ya, but planes are still being flown to the desert. Back then we were getting multiple new airplanes every month for years and hiring nearly 60 First Officers a month.
In order for the rapid upgrade to be a reality 9E will need to:
a) Hire new FO's
b) Stop the loss of airframes or grow the fleet in some other way (more 900s).
Where do you sit on the list PapaMike?

You guys should make yourself comfortable as an FO for the long haul. You are trading the Captain's chair for cash. You decide what's important.

Nobody can yet predict what the regionals will look like over the next five years until C2015 is done at mainline. I'm expecting the elimination of more 50 seaters, and tightening of code shares in exchange for more 76 seaters. I expect most of Endeavor's 200's will be replaced with 900's, and E175s, IF they can staff them.

The key will be if projections and reality are in the same ballpark. Last time this was attempted the company said "we are going to hire 300-350" and we got a total of, what 30? So believing will be a matter of seeing, although I believe the forecast wasn't for 30/mo anyway in terms of upgrades. There are less than 600 active FO's last I checked, and at 15 upgrades a month that's 40 months. Still comes down to new hires however you cut it. There will need to be over 150 upgrades in the remainder of the year alone to hit the 144 to DL and age 65 retirements alone. Add in United, American, etc- that number rises quickly but I can't forecast that total. Still pointless without new hires. So I say new hires!

There will be no mass upgrades or increases in fleet size. That's why Delta is paying these guys $20,000 more a year to sit on their hands. They are not giving them the money because they feel generous.

I'm continually amazed at how fast new guys can figure everything out these days. Must be a new kind of crystal ball out that I don't know about yet. Anyone that's been in the industry a while knows that you can't use words like: no, never, always. I agree, with the second part of your post. In the end it's your choice for whatever works best for you. However, things change quickly in this industry, and hindsight is the best indicator if you made the right choice or not.
Here I'll use mine:
"Endeavor is not the Regional to stay away from at this time, that would be ExpressJet."

Been 121 since '96 and through the meat grinder. Here is the only absolute:
ALL REGIONAL CARRIERS SUCK
Pay and benies SUCK
Schedules SUCK
Find one that has a domicile where you want to be and resist the urge to hop between the suck-you'll only lose seniority ($)
GTF out ASAP

Hey I'm getting off military orders after 3 years and heading back to Endeavor. Can someone PM me so I can ask a few questions about what to expect regarding seniority, likely base, and pay/benefits? I got some great info a couple months ago but like to keep up to date regarding my employment conditions. Thanks guys, fly safe and see you soon!

Duh, of course there's a reason Delta is doing this. But tell me this, what exactly is the best regional to stay at, Compass maybe? Any regional that operates 50 seat jets will be shrinking. And what's the difference in your eyes between a sign on bonus, which essentially is what new hires will be getting, and a retention bonus? They're both bonuses used as a sales pitch.
