I stopped caring about stuff like that when I got a call from pro stands about hurting feelings. Lol it’s the world we live in. Usually just turn off the AP and make It work for the silent green needelers. I know you’ve never done that to me cause I think we’re both in ATL if I’m not mistaken and we’ve flown together

I agree that switching to green needles without announcing it is pretty tame, overall. But I come from a background where both pilots were strongly encourage to mirror one another. That way there was no question as to why something “strange” was showing up for one person and not the other.
But when it comes to moving things such as cowl switches (also pretty tame), to bleeds xfer, etc. I always try to announce what I am doing. Keeps CAs less skittish. And if you fly with someone who is moving things like cowls and BtG without announcing it, what will his next hand movement to the upper console be doing?
About the only thing I move without announcing it is the temps on the packs. But that’s just me.

On the contrary tho, I have noticed a small handful flipping off the seatbelt sign without asking or announcing it, and even worse, not even making a PA. That, is a bit of a no-no IMO, and would imagine in most's? If someone smacks their head in the back through some CAT when the seatbelt sign is off, the powers at be aren't going to be blowing up the FO's cell on his precious day off. Again, only a small handful I've seen do that. I know a few of our crusty fellows would bite their arm off over that. And I would hate to see someone lose their arm over that.

It’s not always the FO’s I try to be as standard as possible & have to fly w/ CA’s that set a MDA on a Visual when it’s clear & a million or complain about you landing Long w/ a super light A/C on a RW with 11k of RW in front of you because I choose not to slam it on
So what’s more cautious??? Me not wanting to slam it on or slamming it on the 1st 1K with 10K in front of me ?.... I am sorry yell it me if I am out of safety standards not common sense want to be a professional pilot standards

Once, as an extremely new FO, I️ accidentally spun the baro knob instead of the needle knob while starting a cat II approach, unannounced. That went over like a lead balloon. Talk about a lesson learned. My ass has only recently recovered.

I'm assuming it's because if someone was going to nav to nav transfer and someone switched to green without announcing it and the pilot flying was waiting for it to capture it could blow through the localizer course because both have to be in white needles with the blue preview.
