I’m not blaming him at all for anything, absolutely not. I think he’s a great guy tbh. I’m just pointing out that if your a public figure representing an industry, you should not make such statements and posts and then behind closed doors act completely different. Honestly the kid makes good videos, I definitely vibe with them. That being said, it’s undeniable he seeks attention which is cringeworthy but I’ve seen substantially worse. What makes me personally have no respect for him? That would be right around the time I hear him slip in an advertisement on “logten pro” or whatever. I’d say filming an approved video for Envoy and then using that video to profit off advertising is the same as accepting a tip from a passenger.

I really have nothing against the guy personally and to be honest, have only seen his videos because people made such a huge fuss over it. What turned me against it was the videos being made during negotiations when things were really clicking. That should not have happened and if he is in fact advertising for things inside of a company-approved video, that is pretty slimy as well and should come to a quick halt.

I know the argument is that anyone could get "approval" to make videos like these, but in reality that is a lie. This guy fit the perfect image they wanted and allowed it. They certainly wouldn't approve me to make videos so it sets up this uneven playing field where some get to make extra money and others are shut out, not by work but by the companies policies. That seems wrong. If he wants to continue making videos like these while the rest of us cant or are not allowed to, perhaps he should jump out of the union and become a management pilot.

I don’t know HOW MUCH he is making from his YouTube Chanel and associated website, but with or without any “product placement” within his videos, he IS making money from them. It may be mutual, the Voy maybe using him and he using the company, but this IS something not afforded to others.

I have a friend who live streams on Youtube. He has less than ten percent of the subscribers that Swayne has and far less daily views and he makes about 1200.00 per month. Swayne is probably doing pretty well. Good for him.

Hope all these youtubers are saving their loot. The fad may not last forever, and when they're no longer quite so young, fresh, and hip, they might get replaced by newer models. It is after all youth-oriented entertainment.

Depends on your market. There are plenty of successful Youtubers in their forties and fifties. Many Youtube providers are teaching a skill or reporting news or similar and don't have to be young or attractive to give good value to the viewer.

I would agree. In fact, most of the YouTube personalities I watch are my age or older, granted this will depend largely on what your interests are.

I just don't think this is accurate. Not only is YouTube certainly not solely youth-oriented, but it also isn't a fad. I am firmly middle-aged and I spend the majority of my time on YouTube when I am at a computer. So much useful information for my various hobbies.

Guy....most airlines don't operate Part 91 anymore, but that still wouldn't change any airline specific rules in GOMS or SOPs on filming in the cockpit during sterile. People have been busted hard at other airlines for this. All fun and games till you run into a Fed with a weed up his arse looking to make a point.

Flown plenty of them. Most airlines are not running them Part 91 anymore. But even if you are running Part 91 that doesn't relieve you of GOMs and SOPs that prohibit this kind of stuff. Like I said. All fun and games till you run into a Fed looking to make a point and you find out you didn't have the authorization you thought you had. Its happened other places with these types of videos and people got busted. Wouldn't want to be the PIC that gets busted because my FO is trying to make a buck on youtube.

Nope don't work for Envoy. Know people that do and they think this guy is going to get busted one of these days for this stuff. I know exactly what Part 91 means but clearly you don't know that doesn't relieve you from what is in GOMs and SOPs. I've been around a lot longer than you have, and long enough have seen stuff like this go sideways when a POI doesn't like it and decides to make a point.
