Envoy Air don’t come here

it sucks, but the sooner it’s done the better.
sounds like Mesa has the same problem of being two different airlines depending on the equipment you are on.

this is true, but anyone anywhere must consider the definition of stagnant and/or shrinking. Those at XJT struggled with the same decision and still struggle they stayed as long as they did. LCCs for various reasons are not always the most logical next step for all. Surely, be prepared to answer an interview panel IF they ask about a lateral move. However, by this time I’m sure most folks on a panel would be familiar with these situations.

How long have you been at Mesa? How much time do you have? I think you’re looking at it wrong. You are short sighted to leave there for Envoy. You already have seniority at Mesa and will be giving that up to go somewhere else. Consider PSA. They are hiring DECs and will get you extra $$ for the CRJ type and the captain bonus, plus if you believe in the flow fairy, there is that too, and the flow bonus. But you will still be losing ground going back to initial (not flying actual aircraft and logging hours) and be on the bottom of the seniority list. If you think being an FO with low seniority, being a DEC will mean you are in the bottom of the seniority list until those hired with you catch up to your seniority.

I understand the quick loss of seniority. What I’m getting at is it’s probably gonna take longer to get to an ultimate goal by staying at Mesa than moving somewhere else. I’m only a few years in so it’s not like I’ll have wasted a lot of years. Right now we’re hardly upgrading on the CRJ, upgrade time is about 5+ years, and getting worse. But again, a lateral move is a last ditch effort.

I have a bid for it, it’s one of many options. But I’m still about a year away from that unless I get lucky and all the super senior guys stop bidding over there. Like I said, lateral moves are worst case only, but I’ll make that move before I upgrade on the CRJ.

It’s 1am and I can’t sleep. Too much going on around here at home and I decided to read this site…
after 20 years in this job let me explain..
ALL REGIONALS SUCK… I was at one for 8.5 years.
it was supposedly a “good one”. It wasn’t until I moved on that I realized it was terrible.
it’s a stepping stone. Hang out and move on. It’s a requirement. I hate the “paying your dues” line but it’s true. Don’t jump around. Put in your time and move on.

Even the BEST regional is still worse than the WORST of anything else....
Getting out at the earliest opportunity is the objective.

That's where he should be applying.... along with Frontier and Southwest when their window was just open. Even a few of the better ACMI's with home basing are currently hiring.
Attending job fairs and meeting with recruiters. Networking hard now can take years off the regional pain.
