however, we aren’t check airmen and it isn’t our job to do it. If it was then we would all have an extra fed ride and be qualified to teach, but we aren’t.

I’ve learned a lot of stuff from captains, and taught a few some stuff too. More often than either of those occurrences though is that a captain will wax on endlessly about stuff I already know like how to do an arrival. Imo, listening to these lectures and acting appreciative is the collateral damage of having a culture where we do explain things to each other.

FM-1 & AOM-1 does a pretty good job explaining the entire EWBS and TPS line by line but not many go that deep unfortunately.
As someone else said, calculating Bingo fuel & holding times is a close 2nd on time explained during IOE. Again, this applies to the Captains too

Absolutely agree! Without a doubt performance takes by far the longest to teach and explain when I’m conducting IOE. This applies to captains and FOs alike.

The company should accept some of the blame and actually take time to teach it.

I agree they should be teaching it and your IOE check airman should absolutely be covering those items in detail. I know I do and many of the ones I know do, so it’s a shame yours didn’t. I would recommend you dig in the books and self teach as much as possible and ask your captains questions. When I’m not doing ioe I encourage FOs I fly with to ask questions especially those close to upgrade.

I have taken the time to ask questions and learn the material, at least I think I have, but again with no training from the school house its hard to know exactly what it is they want you to know.

I absolutely was not taught anything on IOE other than basic stuff, none of which is performance. This was a couple years ago during the big hiring wave so things moved pretty quickly, not to mention right at the bare minimum of 25 hours.
