So management won’t even talk to the union about reserve changes or a pay increase and now they want all captains to be IOE instructors without the extra pay. What a joke. Why go the extra mile when management treats us like thrown out garbage?

My take on the hi6 is, fo's having difficulty even after a year of experience, and, that all new captains are idiots and have no idea what they are doing.

How long you been here? You want guys to play NCO, then give them the stripes, authority, and pay to do so. I know that this company will not back me up if I hem up an FO for screwing around. This ain't the Army (or Air Force), and I ain't paid to be a check airman, simple as that.

Can we all stop using the phrase “any traffic in the area please advice” and also cut out all the other unnecessary crap and filler words in radios calls when approaching a airport without a operating tower.

State the facilities name Example: Peoria (not Peoria ‘traffic’)
State who you are Example: Envoy xxxx
State where you are Example: 10 miles North.
State what you’re doing Example: Inbound for landing 13
State the facilities name Example: Peoria

Altogether - “Peoria, Envoy xxxx, 10 miles north, inbound for 13, Peoria”

And That’s It!!!
Make a call for inbound, downwind, base, final, and exiting the runway. Short and concise.

Dear God it’s embarrassing listening to professional aviators and colleagues slaughter radio calls that they should have learned in a private pilot course. Rant over thanks for listening.

Read your FM-1. All captains are already instructors. It’s your job to be a mentor and help fill in the gaps. And yes, they treat us like crap, but it’s our jobs to make sure that those in the right seat are learning and developing because in less that two years they will be captains themselves. We have a moral obligation to teach them.

Perhaps self preservation being a good driver, given you will inevitably be deadheading with one of said FO’s recently upgrading to CA.

I'll agree with everything you said except one thing. "Peoria traffic" is not an improper call. Saying "traffic" to the station you're calling is clearly proper and spelled out in the AIM. Now...all the other extra BS definitely needs to be left out. "Any traffic in the area please advise", "Envoy xxxx with you", "Envoy xxxx checking in" such and such are some GA nonsense that makes you sound like you don't know what you're doing. Keep it short and simple, gents. And try not to sound like a CFI zipping around the pattern.

Good thing we have all those street captains out there then. The captain instructor role dissipated the minute the company decided to hire street captains. Just chat with some FO’s they will let you know. Just because CA is in front of your name doesn’t mean you need to be a instructor. Now a days the guy in the right seat knows as much or more than the guy in the left.
