I think cancellations due to lack of CA staffing are gonna be a thing during this 3 month cycle. Or the next one. Not sure why Envoy does this to themselves, maybe they are trying to scare us into preferencing.

Nothing like missing your flow date because you decided to wait for a displacement.

As much as I’d like for everyone to hold strong and displace to get the extra cash out of the company, if you’re 1.5 years or less from flow, you’d be foolish not to preference bid. However, without going back to look at previous bids, I’m willing to bet ‘most’ are over 2 years out.

This bid won’t affect the (already critical) CA shortage until about 5-6 months from now, but generally, I agree. The displacement problem is one they created for themselves. Now they are leaving themselves extremely short staffed for the summer just to try and address it.

Where in the contract it says that “A pilot who wishes to flow through to American will only be eligible to be offered a New Pilot Position if they have held a captain status at Envoy”?
my understanding was that FOs can flow, because they don’t have a training freeze.

Have to agree. The company said plans to upgrade more this year than last. This was a small vacancy with lots of DCL. Everyone preferenced so the company doesn’t have to pay seat lock money and gets people back on the “If I want it , I have to preference” mindset which is what the company wants. They also want to limit the time between award and class. Maybe they have created enough of a captain cushion they can get people to preference for a while, but they are going to have to have some big vacancies at some point soon to get the numbers they want, which will likely come with some displacements.

Bingo. As confirmed by the email today. You do not have to preference. You can take the displacement and make the extra money. They’re trying to save money because of a problem they created. I would highly encourage anyone who wants the extra money and is more than a year from flow to avoid preference bidding. You’re giving up free money for something that is going to happen one way or another. Don’t fall for the “preference or it won’t happen” rhetoric. It will happen. This last bid was tiny. Don’t let them fool you into preferencing for the next one.

Just a hunch.
The union doesn't have anything to gain by suggesting pilots to preference if they want to upgrade.
