Maybe, but I don't see all these wise, mature, critical-thinking old guys volunteering.... besides, that if that young kid has the same job as the "old/wise" genius does, maybe he/she is doing something right.

No, the lifers are almost all captains and most of the young kids are still FOs. Honestly 1000 hours of 121 time may legally qualify you to be captain but there are plenty that show everyday that they don’t have the maturity. Not that age alone makes you mature. But the lifers are the ones that have figured out their time and energy is better spent on other things.

No, but the new hire young kid is exactly the one to get into a jumpseat committee, P2P volunteer, LEC Grievance committee, ASAP review or other union position where S/he can start learning how to do the internal union stuff. Expense reports, who to contact at the MEC or National, and stuff like that. Start em small and train them to succeed.

A lifer wouldn't be a bad choice for MEC Chair or Vice Chair, but probably not both. The institutional knowledge gets retained, and the elected LEC/MEC Status Reps still direct the show.
