Why continue to make lateral moves during the current hiring environment?

Recency of experience. Being out of the industry for the last 18 months means that “previous 12 months” metric is lacking for me.

How long after fingerprints, drug test, logbook review, etc (CJO, no interview, with prior 121)... are people hearing back to get a firm offer/orientation date?

If you have 600+ hours of 121 time it shouldn’t be long. The super secret “CA review board” meets every Friday. Should hear back the following Monday.

DO NOT do this if you plan to commute. The misleading part is if you leave the company any time before three years for anywhere besides American, you will have to pay back the $30K captain bonus and if you leave for anywhere besides American AT ANY POINT, you will not see the rest of $120K. Don’t expect that you will get to American via the flow. The numbers are pretty much impossible for a new hire.

I think that’s probably enough.

Read through the history of this forum. Nothing has changed except the $150K retention bonus that is designed to keep captains at the company until they make it to American, but that is a very small window of people and if you’re not already on property and a captain or close to upgrading, it won’t help you.

AGREE on all accounts. Flying with AA now, with ZERO help from Envoy.

I did my fingerprints and junk a little over a week ago and I just got a orientation date for 10-6 this morning.

Same here, but did my fingerprints/drug screen/logbook review on August 3rd. Apparently the FAA or Mesa didn’t get my paperwork back to Envoy until last week.

Now I have to make the decision between staying at Mesa and upgrading, or moving to Envoy as a DEC.

Any advice from current Envoy employees would be appreciated. Gonna be commuting from Louisiana. Have about 4-5 direct flights daily.

Not a current employee, but if layoffs happen with a recession in progress, your seniority at Mesa might save your job.

If you’re flying the 175 out of HOU with Mesa, with the new pay rates, I definitely wouldn’t give up your seniority to go to ENY. That being said, it has a whole lot more to just giving up seniority and starting over at a new airline than it has anything to do with it being ENY or any concern of layoffs. What do you think you will gain by doing so? If there is not something significant to gain by doing so, then don’t. Giving up more than you gain. It’s a lateral move.

The training department at Mesa is in disarray. I have no idea when I’ll be able to upgrade (I have the hours by a lot) because of the emphasis on FO’s right now. Besides that, the failure rate for upgrades is very much higher than it should be because of the training department. And Mesa doesn’t have the years of 121 experience credit that Envoy does. I’d be starting at Envoy as an 8 year DEC vs a 4 or 5 year CA at Mesa. Plus the bonuses at Envoy. The money at Envoy would definitely be more.

I flew with a new Mesa CA the other day, it took him 6 months to upgrade. That’s ridiculous. At least the FO min pay would be livable now, but not when he went through it.
