RIP Envoy
#21
I've posted asking questions here before about Envoy, and other airlines as well as having attended their Aerocrew online job fairs since I was considering getting back into 121 in the late summer and fall. Decided to continue staying on the sidelines of aviation for now. Seems like every airline is understaffed, line holders getting minimum days off, blatant contract violations, low morale, management planning flights they know they don't have the crews to staff properly, etc. Nobody seems happy, and the problems that caused the days long operational meltdowns over the holidays seem to be headed for getting a lot worse before they get a better. Even those that are lucky enough to get a job at mainline AA are going to be stuck doing initial training sims at midnight because management can't competently run an airline, so they're being set up for failure right from the start.
You are one of these guys that waits until the stock market has been going up and is getting near a correction and buys at the top, then dumps your stocks after they go down to lock in your losses?
You will NEVER have a better opportunity in your life to jump in to an aviation career than you do right now.
Yes, regionals are a $hitshow, but regionals have ALWAYS been sort of a $hitshow. Now they are simply a somewhat better paying $hitshow, not that you ought to plan on staying around them a minute longer than you have to. Jump in now at the one that pays or suits you best, fly your @$$ off, and in a year or so you’ll be competitive to get hired at a major. Wait until the guys retiring right now are replaced by a few thousand guys quicker than you and you can be trapped in lag for the rest of your aviation career?
I’m no great fan of Envoy and still think AA has too much debt, but cripes guy, if not now, WHEN?

Let me guess…

Was thinking the EXACT same thing.

A YEAR from now?? We’ve seen what can happen in a year. But three NEW aircraft is small potatoes in the scheme of the fleet size and honestly doubt they would bother with a deal that small as a year away plan. Even as many as AAG has purchased, they wouldn’t likely get a very good deal on a ORDER for three. Even a delivery slot for three a year away that some small operator isn’t going to take isn’t going to be given at any significant discount as that is far enough away to be absorbed in the production schedule. Planes for delivery a year from now aren’t even parts yet, they are raw material. Now if they were a purchase of opportunity, sure, but that’s usually a cancellation for something that’s already built or at least very near completion.

AA will need the airplanes, not just the pilots. They will want the RJs to continue flying. Over 40% of all passengers fly on RJs right now, AA can't lose that overnight.
One thing to watch for will be things that will indicate AA is going to bring the RJs onto their certificate. If the "staple" is real, they will need to do this. So, look for AA management to start taking more roles in training/fleet/management at the WO Regionals and for documents/procedures to start to align with that of mainline.

Just curious and not implying, but why is AA all of a sudden meeting with APA for daily negotiations? Also why so much negotiating for only a 2 year deal.
I believe United has extended their contract for 2 years twice since Oscar showed and he threw them a bone and that was that. This seems like a lot more energy being deployed for a 2 year extension.

Is this just because Robert is taking over?

That’s the only way APA would do it. They don’t want drama. The wholly
owned carriers should force the merge and in conjunction with APA announce that the new WO will be stapled to the bottom and 75% of all new hires at AA will come from that list. An ab initio program. From cradle to grave.
