Look, it's not that hard and as a CA you should know how long it will take you to taxi to the gate. Shut it down after cool down and wait to start the APU until you get within throwing distance to the gate. It spins up so quick it will be up and running by the time you set the brake.
The question wasn't asked from the point of view of someone who's never flown a plane. On the 145, we shut down number 1 on the way in. Curious as to why shutting down number 2 is SOP on the 175.

It isn't, at least for us it can be either engine. Not sure about Envoy. Most of the time it is the number 2 engine, but if I need to make a hard right into the gate I will have the FO shut off number 1.

Look at where the baggage doors are on the 175.

The 175 can taxi on number 1. ACMP 2 switch needs to be turned from AUTO to ON, or you’ll find yourself in the grass. In other words, it creates an unnecessary threat. So with that in mind it’s probably better just to taxi on 2.

And as others stated, you have some safety factors to keep in mind.

You haven’t flown the 145 much in hot temps then, because this is just flat out wrong

Ok, care to elaborate on your response this time? You’ve made this same comment twice now on my posts. You got clowned on the first attempt by others, so what’s up?

You keep getting your engines and hydraulic systems mixed up.
You also seem to misunderstand what the logic for the auto position is for the hyd ac pumps.
