Hey guys. I have a fresh commercial cert & have an interview coming up in a few weeks for Envoy's cadet program. Is it still true that the technical portion is a lot of basic instrument knowledge ie: regs, jepp charts, alternate & fuel requirements, 91.175, 91.185, etc etc?

Any info or tips on what to expect would definitely be apreciated!

Also I've had a few people tell me it wouldn't be the smarterst idea to get locked into a regional too early since the industry is always changing. Part of me agrees with this but the tuition reimbursement & benefits that I would get as a CFI seem too good to walk away from.

I was in the same situation you’re in about a year ago. Here’s the thing, I did the cadet program and got locked in at about 400 hours and I think the benefits from gettin in that early did well for me since I got 1st pick in class and accreted vacation time, 401k, sooner ZED fares to be unlocked, etc.

The big kicker was the flight benefits and the free luggage you get, it was a nice touch but my advice is you apply to all cadet programs you can. Take the bonus money and put it into your savings immediately to accrue interest, and if you decide to go somewhere else you can at least buy yourself out of it. No need to lock down to one Cadet program unless you are sure you want to come here. If that’s the case then welcome aboard!

This guy/gal here gets it. Take the money and stash it, don't dont spend it lol. That way if the tides change between now and then you just hand back the money, minus the interest you have earned on it and walk away to greener pastures. In the meantime enjoy the travel benefits.

Do Envoy pilots have a Facebook group? SkyWest has one with 2,500+ pilots in it.

Definitely makes sense. The only thing I would be hesitant about is maybe burning bridges with a company because I know how small this industry is. “Thanks for the free flights for a year but now I’m out”. I guess no harm no foul though as long as the money is repaid?
