So my friend just finished IOE in LGa and he tells me he probably wont fly for the rest of the month because there are too many guys on reserve and wont hold a line until July... I thought they were hurting for pilots

That's a pretty accurate assessment for holding a line, maybe August. The company offered 15 home based TDY f/o positions for June. Also, the latest vacancy bid has 13 f/o's transferring in soon along with more guys from ORD who don't want to sit reserved. The plus side is that in July around two dozen f/o's are leaving for DFW, so most of those in class 1702 should be able to hold a line.

As for the actual flying, the more senior you are, the less you'll fly on reserve. There is rarely open time to be had and some people only flew 15 hours last month on reserve. Add the lack of open time to the overwhelming number of reserves, and the massive reduction in flying during the weekend, and you get a lot of idle time. Some love it, some hate it. It won't last forever though.

The 200% critical coverage pay has made just about all open time vanish as quickly as it appears.

Yeah I am getting a notice on my phone and literally by the time I open to see what it is, someone has grabbed it. It's insane how quickly it goes.

We are feeling on the 175 as well. Even the most junior guys are not getting called whole on RAP. Kinda sucks but hopefully the rumor that lots of FO's are in IOE will soon help.

There's also a lot of people going to upgrade system wide including NY over the next 3 months. Also by Sept NY will be 90+ hardlines.

Has the 700 gone to PSA for the month of May yet? Usually see it in the RGO, but haven't yet this month.

Last month's delivery didn't happen til around April 26, and I don't believe it showed up in the RGO until shortly before it went.

It was in the RGO beginning of APR up in MQT. But the RGO text didn't say "transfer" until a few days prior.

They are zeroed out on captains every day and have even cancelled a few flights for lack of captains. As long as the balance between FO and CA is off there will be FOs not flying as much. Blame training delays.

Look at the LGA FO and CA reserve lists for today and tomorrow. 13 FOs today, 19 tomorrow. CAs are 0/7.

ORD CA: 1/6, ORD FO: 9/21
DFW CA: 2/8, DFW FO: 26/34


I think it is safe to say a lot of FOs won't be flying.
