In this brave new world of forced upgrades and street captains the wheel is going to need to get reinvented. The current methodology is unsustainable. We simply can't hire or train fast enough to maintain the required supply of captains. Whether it be remote basing with dead heads on either end, a huge bump in compensation or some other idea. The company and the union need to put their heads together and get very creative.

But you have to hire people knowing where they are going, and then not force them to change domiciles unless the company can still provide the commute.

Who made the 1000hr 121, 135, 91K requirement? FAA, Envoy, ALPA? Can the company change the totals to maybe 500hrs with Envoy? I’d rather see an FO with 500hrs with the company than street captains, at least they know where the chief pilots office is...

January 2018 classes will be full in my opinion. It’s funny how many bypassed Dec17 NH class in an attempt to have Christmas holiday off.” These geniuses missed out on paid couple of weeks off during holiday season and new year with full Travel benefits. Also $1,000 in AAG bonuses (due to recent Tax cut profits). Also a TON OF SENIORITY!
Does seniority have any value these days? Has AAG/ENY cracked the Union?
This bid appears to be a Yuge mess! Tremendous! Like nothing we’ve ever seen before. Let’s see how it plays out. I am curious how effective all these union busting AAG sanctioned tactics being enforced by ENY will play out. Interesting times indeed. I wonder the costs, I wonder if we will see degraded and costly inefficiencies and growing pains. Will all these efforts be worth the end product, which is to deliver the “High Valued” strategic goals of ENY for AAG?

So with your logic...
1500 hour pilot zero jet time gets to 2000 hours. 500 of those 2000 hours are with Envoy. This same pilot has zero jet PIC, you would rather see him upgrade then a new hire who has let’s say 6000 hours 3000 JET PIC. Yes the new hire won’t know how to manipulate DECS as well, yes the new hire will not know where the “Chief Pilots Office” is unless they ask the question.
Here’s a question for you, who would you rather have in the front of the aircraft when your family is in the back and they just departed In hard IFR into an ICE storm and the crew has the Autopilot Written up?

This is true, however, I am sick of the failed negotiations. ALPA is not the only one to blame IMO. I am prepared to watch this slow speed train wreck go down. It will not happen due to ALPA’s lack of trying to negotiate gains. In my opinion, let’s just work with what we have. I think Shorter flow time and better Captain rates would motivate upgrades as well as jumpstart off the street hiring
