If I’m planning to come on aboard in October and finish training in ~Jan 2020 I will be in reserve for quite some time.

I still have a chance to bail as I have not fully committed yet. Should I be concerned?

Recruiter JUST told me 3-6 weeks to hold a line at kewr.
😔😔
Looks like not everyone is on the same page
The recruiter may have meant after training was complete, which is how you should look at it. Training has been taking 4-5 months. That’s very frustrating but in the AQP world not a big deal. Then you have OE for a couple of weeks and then you actually go on reserve for maybe a couple of months. Also by the time you get here and go through the process it’s very possible we are coming out of slow flying into heavy flying instead of the other way around. You have to take it all into account. Other than the slow training it’s not going to be much different elsewhere.

The shrinking of the lines; is this normal due to fall/winter approaching ?
Let's not kid ourselves, this place is still heading towards the ground. With a net loss of pilots every month and a decrease in the number of lines year over year.

Lines in EWR
sept 2017 87 lines
oct 2017 83 lines
sept 2018 70 lines
oct 2018 69 lines
sept 2019 63 lines
oct 2019 58 lines

Anyone that says otherwise is blowing smoke and trying to further their own interests (seniority).

United is focused on growing C5 at the expense of XJT pilots QOL. That’s been the trend for years.

C5 has their own issues like being extremely short on CAs and not hiring FOs right now because of it. A former guy I used to instruct with is on his fifth month of reserve, flew 5hrs last month and 3 the month before, “there’s no telling when it’ll pick up” he encouraged me to stay away. That’s an indication of how things are going there. United will have a difficult time growing C5 if that trend continues.

UA could be drawing down lines for XJT and giving them to C5 because they may want this place to start covering flying elsewhere. Haven’t heard anything like that, just a thought I’m throwing out there since there’s a lot of shifting going on right now 🤷*♂️

Correction: Mar 4 hires will likely be on reserve in October in EWR. Some probably had a line in September and are going back on reserve in Oct. That may be their third or fourth month on reserve depending on how quickly they completed training.

In September they had 63 lines and 5 people bid for reserve preferences. October is 58 lines and 14 people will not have one. Whether there are any relief lines granted, we'll see!

If they were hired on Mar 4, realistically when were they done with OE?

Sounds like EWR is the base given right out of class... Interviewing next week so just wondering what to realistically expect. (if given the offer of course) Not buying the recruiter spiel.

26 in the new hire class today. I’m hoping they all get the 175.

Is training all caught up and no known delays?
