As someone at 12 years senior, I consistently move up 20 numbers a month. Can only imagine what’s leaving behind me. Although attrition is good, their hiring numbers aren’t going to cut it. Management has always been a little behind on their attrition projections.
Hiring 20 a month but losing 35 is kind of a bust. Not to mention, are all 20 making it through training? I can’t imagine all will stay more than a few months once they find out their buddies at other regionals have already upgraded and been awarded a line.
The focus should be on transparency. Tell them the truth and don’t embellish. Tell them it’s going to suck. Tell them they won’t last long. That way, if and when things get better, you’ll not only have hired someone, but you will know they are aware and will likely stay for a few years.

Most if not all instructors offered us a ride back to the hotel, even when the shuttle was still running which was a super nice gesture.

I’d like to be all uppidy about the future but folks gotta get real. There’s no magic at play here. With slow upgrades and no solid career progression, 40+ a month is a fantasy.

This metric works in a perfect world. Do the math though. Say United hires an avg of 10 per month and 20 others leave to go to other places per month. That’s 30 a month leaving. Do you honestly see XJT hiring, training and retaining 40+ per month? At that rate we would see an extra 120 pilots for the year. That’s best case scenario. Which isn’t really that great.

As for 40+ per month including attrition, United will have to sweeten the carrot. And I don’t think cash is what’s going to do it.

Here's a thought
"The transaction also includes certain protections around existing SkyWest Airlines flying, as well as priority position to add 25 new dual-cabin aircraft with United should those opportunities arise."
I suppose that there's absolutely NO possibility that this statement could be alluding to the contingency that "IF", and it's a big "IF", ExpressJet cannot get the first 25 E-175s into the schedule as planned and expected by UAL? That THEN, and ONLY THEN would SKW INC get the "FIRST PRIORITY" on these specific 25 E-175s???????
It's also no secret that UAL mgt is pretty upset with SKW INC after they gave XJT some of the worst condition CR2s to fly out of ORD. Given the mechanical issues that XJT has had with these specific airframes it's very likely that SKW INC mgt knows their days with UAL are on a descent."
