What's the Latest at ASA/Expressjet?

That is the only way we are going to get people to come here...with a pay raise. 9E is now paying their pilots $80,000 over four years to stay, GoJet is offering an $8,000 signing bonus and other carriers are doing the same. If SKYW wants this deal to get done they are going to have to simply buy the pilot group off to the tune of about $80 million ($64.5 million signing bonus, at $15,000/pilot...most pilots won't accept anything less in terms of a signing bonus) and another $15.5 million in hourly pay raises and other financial improvements in the the new CBA. If you want something done these days, all it takes is money...time for St. George to open up the checkbook, or just let this place go the way of the Dodo...either or, it doesn't matter to most of us who are not lifers.
It's in the contract now. It will be paid.

The problem is, it sets up a precedent of contract work-arounds. If the union agrees to raising new hire pay only, what other bubba deals is mgmt going to pull? Also, the well is poisoned. If mgmt had good employee and union relations and had not violated the contract incessantly or "reinterpreted" it, they probably would get their wish. Typically, contracts are negotiated lump sum. Mgmt. gives the union a lump sum and the MEC decides how to apportion it. Mgmt. like the whole bonus idea anyway, because it can be given and taken away w/o negotiations. As an aside, I worked in IT leading up to Y2K, and there was such a demand for IT workers, that many companies did the same thing, they offered a bonus at the completion of one year of service. Most workers took their bonus, and went on to the next higher paying job--something called portability of skills.

Just curious if you mean that the ASA/ExpressJet pilots will be put on the Sky West list with longevity or will the existing pilots be thrown away with the airplanes and have to start over at Sky West?

H$ll, I don't know. The person I quoted said Inc. isn't in the business of giving away money. Then said Express Jets just has to wait out the computing. I think Skywest is one of your competitors even though you are supposedly on the same team. Why would they grow the expensive side of the house?

Life isn't fair. Most FO's here didn't pay 10k for training. That wasn't fair, but it happened. Raise the freaking pay. If the MEC won't support that, then it is obvious they are not on our side.

First year pay raises help the company attract new pilots. It's a company issue, not an Association issue. If the company wants it, they need to buy it. That's how negotiations work. The union should NOT "help the company", they should help the dues paying pilot group who is already here!
