There is nothing the pilots or their union can do at this point. The decisions
are made above the airline level. The core always sacrifices the extremities to stay alive.

Union or not I feel Skywest could've figured out something that would work for all groups. What disturbs me more is the lack of comraderie or support I see from the Skywest pilots. Is it simply the union hate? If so, would they have same sentiments at the majors regarding their union? Seems like double standards? Granted they don't do as much for the regional side, but if one's goal is a major with ALPA representation I would think you'd support them along the way?

whipsawing on a smaller level.
Inc. is protecting Skw at the expense of express jet for now.
You hit the nail on the head!

And I am pretty sure they are making rationale decisions. It isn't about SKYW first. It is about SKYW delivering a better margin.

Are you sure? Maybe you could expand and provide solid examples? Because I'm pretty sure by Skywest's history that they know how to run and build a business. Seems to me if they'd put some effort into the Express Jet side they could make it profitable as well. And in regards to the whipsawing post, how can you call it whipsawing when they are not using it for bargaining? It's my understanding they're not even negotiating or trying to improve things on the union side

Hindsight being 20/20, I would probably put money on if OO had to do it all over again, the purchase of ASA and XJet would not have happened. However, that is my opinion only...

No, I think you were spot on. They wanted the market share and thought over time we would drop the union. Didn't happen so now they are doing the only thing they can. You guys can get along without a union and that's great. I like that we have a CBA that has compensation and benefits contained within it that can't be changed by the company without going through the union. That is my security blanket. Now, there is no security from being shrunk into nonexistence, but I knew that going in and I have accepted it.
