Retirement Phone Survey
#23
I just took the survey. I took some notes on what was asked. This isn’t complete but I wrote as fast as I could. About half the the questions required multiple choice responses that measure your level of satisfaction. The others were open comments and the caller said they were typing what you said verbatim.
These aren’t exact quotes...just a summary.
1. Do you feel the MECs comms are good?
2. Do you desire more comms on retirement?
3. Are you happy with the amount of info you receive?
4. Are you satisfied with the frequency of the MEC comms?
5. How many videos have you watched?
6. How many of the emails have you read?
7. Have you accessed the APLA website for retirement information?
8. Have to attended union meetings?
9. Have you submitted questions?
10. Has the union done a good job answering questions? Why/why not?
11. How familiar are you with the current A plan?
12. How satisfied are you with the current A plan?
13. How credible is FedEx management.
14. How much do you trust FedEx management?
15. What would you want to ask the NC?
16. What would you want to ask the MEC?
17. Rate the performance of the MEC
18. What should be the principle focus of the MEC in the next year?
19. Has the MEC/Block rep communicated enough/effectively?
20. Do you trust the MEC?
21. How often do you interact with your block rep?
22. Do you get/see value in the dues you pay?
23. There were a couple questions about the variable benefit plan and how educated you are on them.
24. Open comment at the end. The survey taker took a statement on whatever you wanted to say.

Very much the same questions. Instead of management, asking if we believe the negotiating committee, MEC, data in modeler...basically I said everything they are saying is BS because nothing has been negotiated. I told them their basis is all wrong, shouldn't have blown their wad on just one idea. I also stated we couldn't get better because we are weak pilot group, an inept negotiating team, and leaderless MEC. I'm sure it will be ignored. 😖

Just had the phone survey...
(Basic four multiple choice for most questions; very good, mostly good, mostly bad, very bad)
How good are MEC Comms regarding VB?
How detailed are their VB plan communications?
What question would you most want to ask union about VB?
Did you attend VB focus meeting?
How useful was attending that meeting?
Did you use union VB modeler?
How creditable was the VB modeler?
How accurate do you think that modeler is?
How accurate will that modeler be, if the NC comes to members for a vote after negotiating with the company?
Did you read the VB downsides/risks in April 2018 fast read?
How much did you read? (All, most, a little?)
What is riskier, the VB plan or the current A plan?
What is better, the VB plan or the A plan?
What is the biggest thing you would you like to tell the NC?
What is the biggest thing you would like to tell the MEC?
Although there was an opportunity to expand a couple of times, the guy taking the survey only wanted one comment, not the string I tried to and would rather have given. I really wanted to see that the Union truly wanted honest feedback, but I can’t help but interpret their questions as not allowing the member to get to the heart of issues. Sad, really.
For the last question, I said they really need to ask why only (approx) 17% of the eligible voters voted in the last block rep election, and the MEC Chairman election voting wasn’t a good turnout either... I said that the fact that all candidates sound the same and have been insiders who are a part of the problem, and seem to be eating up this VB plan, cannot be a simple coincidence...
I wrote three candidates (discussing my worries if the VB and the derailed train the union seems to be on) in the various elections, got one response only, and it was only to tell me that he (25+ years and high five) sees it as the only option to better our (his) retirement.
And before I get BS from Kronan:
I improve less than $4k a year - not worth the risk
I watched the videos
I went to a focus meeting
I don’t like the rules changing mid-game... but for Gods sake, explore more than one option, and get dang professional negotiators.

Thanks for the correction on MEC Chairman. I definitely screwed that up - typing faster than the brain was thinking... Although I did write 2 of the Block reps with my concerns on MEC chairman (neither answered me) - after writing the candidate who ended up losing and getting a non-committal response. At least there was a response though. I figured it was safe to assume where winning MEC Chairman would be aligned.
I guess I feel very disenfranchised by this union.

Exactly.
They don't care how you think, because you can't quit the union.
If you quit, you still have to pay your dues.
Agency shop means the leadership is not accountable to their members.
They think they are better and smarter than the rest of us.
They are politicians first, and pilots second.

Look it up.
If you quit, you have to pay a "service charge" that is the same rate as dues.
If you don't pay them, you are terminated.
So...you can quit, but the only result is your wallet is still lighter, but you don't get to vote.
Read section 29 A.
This is why the leadership of the union is not accountable to the membership.
