Bus,
I agree. Have been holding back waiting for trips to fall into 7-Day AVA window, but they keep getting snagged up early at straight pay....

Wondering if anyone has been denied AVA. I tried to do it once, fairly early in the morning and got disallowed because it was within the assignment window. Think they've been starting that assignment window earlier than normal. Almost nothing in open time until mid December, because even crappy trips are getting scooped up. Apparently we will do anything at straight pay.
Yep, denied AVA “due to sufficient reserves”... called contract enforcement and they agreed CRS shouldn’t have done that... maybe in six months the company will get it corrected. Wonder how many people CRS has done this with, who either don’t know what was grieved last year, or believe everything CRS says, and are working at 2/3 pay.
Merry F’n Christmas? Bah humbug...

Default AVA tricks

Running FX Cal auto poll. Get notified of a trip. Check open time within seconds and trip was assigned already to reserve. So crew scheduling must be told to assign as fast as possible if reserves available as to not let someone get it on AVA!

This needs to be reported to the union.

But they will probably say they can't do anything to stop it.

So, we got a grievance award that really can't be used?

Company playing chess again, while we are still playing checkers!

Remember, inside assignment window ava is not available. That's straight out of the cba. Wish it wasn't.

What really ****es me off is you have zero pay protection. Even regional airlines have pay protection for draft trips. I got removed for being <1 hr in the hub during a turn. Goodbye 16 ch's...

I hope you are keeping a copy of the denial. Did you call crew scheduling, and if so, what did they say? I would really like to know what their thinking is on this...i.e. have they been told that nothing is changed?

I tried to get a trip at AVA recently, couldn't even input it because it was "within the assignment window". Thing is, seems like they are making that assignment window start earlier than they used to. Though when your trip gets cancelled, you might be quite glad you weren't on AVA. Certainly gives the company flexibility to not pay you.

Don’t forget no disruption pay on DFT/AVA/VLT. Trip gets revised and you may very well credit less than if it was at straight time.

I did not call CRS. Despite the fact that whenever I call them, I treat them as nobility (as I know they’ve got me by the stones with their ability to arbitrarily deny a request), it is way more often than not unreciprocated... The relationship between pilots and schedulers - in my experience - used to be symbiotic and pleasant. Now it seems a them versus us mentality has been nearly universally implemented.
Additionally, I had a one day hole in my schedule that I would’ve just sat on my hands without a crash pad, so I submitted a second request to pick it up as straight M/U.
I too would like to know the details behind their denial...

Krusty, do you think you could do this for us? Call CRS, give them the reference number for the AVA request, and ask if it was an error that you were denied? I would really like to know what is going on. Was it that one scheduler made an error, they aren't honoring the agreement, or what? They should be able to give you an explanation. Honestly, I hate calling CRS for anything, but there have been times when I knew something was wrong and called them. They have been able to research errors and fix them, or at least explain them to me. You would be surprised at what they can do, and you may be due some compensation without having to grieve it or suck it up.

Call the union, explain what happened.

Grieve it!

If we don't push back, the company will keep getting away with it.
