I think the hiring staff now takes a look at the flying background and builds more diversified classes. For example when I went through we all were military. I don’t think they do that anymore. Civilians with heavy flying time and/or lots of 121 flying time are now given more points than they used to be — as they should.

Applying and getting hired
Listen , I just retired after nearly 31 years at FedEx Express ........ These guys here have their jobs because they tried to get here and it happened ......... I’m a civilian background pilot with military enlisted time , took me a long time to get into a place like FedEx , I was 34 years old , flew the Corporate jets then the Line Haul ...... Be super motivated to get here and stay that way once you’re there , don’t feel for one minute you are not worthy of the position , but it’s up to you to bring yourself 100 percent to the challenge , so get your stuff in order , make an outstanding impression and realize you will be alongside some of the best pilots out there in the business .......... Good Luck 🍀

Anyone have an answer on how to update the employment section of the application? It wants an end date for my current employer (even though I checked the box that it was my current employer). It also wants an employer and their address listed for my period of unemployment, and a reason for leaving my unemployment, even though I checked the box that it was a period of unemployment. It will not let me save or proceed without that. Anyone?

I'm retired Army and have been advised by multiple sources, including a professional app review service, to answer "yes" to the UPT and RAG questions. Full disclosure, I have not been invited for an interview yet, but my experience is on the lower end of competitive and I have no PE's. Best of luck to those waiting for the nod.

Brava Zulu to our new FOs
Yea, I would be willing to bet that youre onto something. There have even been some light jet types, with varying levels of experience and education, as well as flight times. Im currently a regional Captain and there have been several hired from my company that had varying levels of quals. Some with internal recs and some without.
This peak I flew with mostly new hires — many with just a month or two experience out of ITU. I am impressed. Everyone of the new hires have been fantastic. I’ve been pleasantly surprised and realize that the company is now hiring solid individuals — many with more Part 121 experience than I have. This is a testament to their hard work at getting to FedEx and our new hiring system which allows FedEx pilots to have a say in our replacements.

finish up ATP prior to hitting submit?
Military pilot here with a question. I'm due to get out around a May through August timeframe. A last minute deployment has put me behind schedule with getting the ATP practical done. I won't be able to finish up until March (which I know is cutting it close) and I'm wondering if I should wait to submit my app until then or just go ahead right now stating my intent to do so. The app has a checkbox for "do you have or will you have your ATP by your availability date", but then it later on specifically asks for my ATP license #. So it's a bit ambiguous to what the intent is. Thanks!

A few years ago I questioned our hiring practices as I came across some FOs who I thought didn’t meet the FedEx pilot standard. Some had attitude problems, some had deficiencies in 121 aviation knowledge or hand flying issues.

Thats awesome! It would appear that to be the truth, since we are seeing such a varying degree of pilots hired today, than say a year ago. As we all know, there are pilots out there with very little flight time who are awesome and 10k hour asshats. The pilot pool is a likely bell curve, so thats good to hear that they are driving to get a certain type of professional. I hope they build and awesome pilot group for me to join one day!
