The answer to your question is that we are labor. Business runs this world, wether we like it or not. The other thing that hurts us as pilots is the restrictions in the RLA that keep us from withholding our services unless released to do so. It stinks, but we must always fight otherwise we will be overrun.
The problem with this specific issue “class of service” is how would you re-write it? To go down that path is to create new unforeseen issues. A good example is how are we to know how the airlines will reclassify their seat configurations post COVID?

You always sound to me like you are speaking from a position of fear. You sound to me like you are too scared to change ANYTHING in our contract other than pay rates. Is that so? Do you not want them to improve anything else? Is there anything? Or am I misjudging you?
The RLA was written to protect commerce, not labor. If that’s what you mean. But a strike was obviously never a position anyone took over it. First class tickets and lay flat seats won’t interrupt commerce or even FedEx specifically if they were forced to comply in a way ALPA argued in the grievance. I do believe that arbitrators unnecessarily give too much deference to management in grievances.

1.) Fix retirement. (However you slice it increase A and uncap B)
2.) Industry leading pay (Hard/Soft combo). We already lead in soft so mainly hard rates. An easy grab for more soft could be discounted stock or profit sharing
3.) Simplify Sub (Don't know how you could with the vast types of operatIons we run but lets give it a college try)
4.) Simply class of service to force and earlier must book by date. Also carry this theory over to established/baseline fair. Just make them book all tickets when pairings are built.
Then get out!!!!!!! 4 year deal with 1 year early opener.

Dont open sh!t but pay rates and retirement. We get screwed in the fine print of any work rule changes.
BTW this contact will be the PBS up to a strike. Look at the changes in mngmt at the top and do the math. This is the PBS contract.

I could go with what you said also. Heck its my top 2. The horseman are in place in management and if people don't see whats coming they are blind. All the new leaders at the top have schedualing backgrounds and are in place to push PBS. Mark my words!

I’m not a reserve guy but I definitely feel we need better reserve rules. Definitely at the bottom of the barrel industry wise. But I notice nobody mentioned to touch that. Not gonna win unless we start looking out For all instead of just what you fly.

Definitely not scared just dont want to open 15-20 items and negotiate for 3.5 years and create new unforeseen issues. If I was king for a day I would want to see the following 4 items:
1.) Fix retirement. (However you slice it increase A and uncap B)
2.) Industry leading pay (Hard/Soft combo). We already lead in soft so mainly hard rates. An easy grab for more soft could be discounted stock or profit sharing
3.) Simplify Sub (Don't know how you could with the vast types of operatIons we run but lets give it a college try)

In an MEC email a few months ago, they indicated from the phone poll that the pilot group favored a more focused negotiation. So I wouldn’t worry about them trying to reinvent a whole chapter of the contract. It seems like they will target some items pilots complain about (sub, class of service, etc) and retirement. Pay rates probably take care of themselves when comparing them with peers.

I’m on board with the group wanting the focus to be on retirement and pay rates. Sub sucks, but do I want our union wasting time/energy/money on it...nope. Focus on retirement and pay and I’ll live with the rest and still have some stuff to complain about going forward!
