Your ‘conservation’ has nothing to do with my reply and seems purely to deflect from the question I answered.

Why don’t you add to the conservation about what a give back it was forcing more pilots into the vto ie PBS system.

No uninformed anger here, it was a major giveback.

I remember the good ole days when we could put two training days smack dab in the middle of a rsv block and lose no pay...

Ok.
Well you didn't answer my question. You answered your own question. MY curiosity is how does more reserve ends up in the VTO/SLG system. Is the company making up reserve days and putting them into the SLG or is it a result of more reserve getting conflicted through maybe an unintended consequence of being able to conflict an entire block of reserve. I ask this because almost everyone I know bids single blocks of reserve during training months so they can drop their entire month and utilize the View/Add Window.
More secondaries vs. hard lines is for sure a negative. The company flooding open time with airport/hotel standby's is IMHO a greater impact to QOL post bid awards. My seniority has never really fallen in the VTO/SLG range so I haven't directly had to deal with it but I fly with many that are force to live with it and i haven't found more than 1 or 2 that like it.

In Contract '15, up to 20% of the known reserve days are allowed to be put into the Secondary process and never put into the bidpack. That is how some pilots lost the ability to conflict them. Those R-days are awarded after all conflicts are finished and as part of secondary lines.

And that was a large giveback in my opinion. We said NO PBS, yet there we were. How did we do on retirement improvements?

Thanks Brian so I’d imagine with the addition of the conflicts a good amount of reserve is in the Secondaries.

If you’re asking if the entire block of reserve days dropped when in conflict, the answer is no. Only the days in conflict dropped.

The company also had the ability to convert your reserve line to a secondary line without your consent.

Forgive my ignorance, are you not able to do that today? Are training days not paid? I though you could conflict bid training with any scheduled work day? Meaning if I drop 2 RSV days in the middle of a RSV block, it simply drops those 2 RSV days, doesn’t change your BLG? Just curious how your work rules operate.

no. In the distant past if you put training on R days you got paid RLG and they had to have you back in time for legal rest than sims. Basically it would ruin a block of R days as far as usefulness for trip assignments.

Gotcha, at Brown we bid our schedule first, then for training, which you can conflict with anything on your awarded line. So say you have a 7 day RSV block, you can bid for training on top of those RSV days, and if not SDF based, you may get 2 travel days as well, potentially dropping 4 RSV days. Usefulness for trip assignment is not a consideration.
