Negotiations
Management has to compete for pilots. So it’s in their interest to attract them. New hire pay and hotel, whether you think that’s crazy, is a real consideration for those pilots who have competing job offers. So when management proposes to increase new hire pay, the NC should say, what are you giving us in return?

Ask for everything! Eth is that so hard to understand. I mean how about massage chairs and a full time massage therapist?! Google has them. I'm joking of course (well sorta). When you get in this game of only asking for the things you believe they will consider you've already lost. Believe me the company has no problem asking for what they want regardless of whether we'd be willing to accept it. Sad part is too many of "US" would accept whatever they offer.
so yeah increase new hire pay and stop grousing about it.
we're in the driver's seat. Time to ante up and check in like men!!!

You: If we don't attract quality candidates or any candidates at all that doesn't effect the membership of this union.
Me: Hey smart guys s#$%ty candidates will become members of the union their presence will have a material effect on our workforce.
You: But that's managements problem!
Me: YGBSM!?!
This is why we cannot have nice things.
Newhire pay is in OUR CBA we cannot have an "industry leading" agreement with industry substandard conditions for pilots in their first year. You need to listen and hear me on this instead of being in your feelings about what conditions you had to endure when you got hired or how good you believe the current crop of recruits have it. That was then this is now.
PS here's a secret negotiating capital increases when you're willing to fight for every inch.

when do we start the countdown to the company lowering the standards enough to justify paying less? Oh yeah that’s been happening industry wide for 50 years.

I don't see how new hire pay is the problem of the company alone. Fact is new hire pilots become senior pilots at some point. It's important that we impress upon them that the more senior cared for them when they were new so they will care for the new when they are senior. Nothing sinks a crew force quicker then when one group gets all the gains at the expense of the other. We are a union. This means the least of us is not sacrificed nor forgotten.
