Default Jumpseat etiquette

Seems like once standard jumpseat etiquette has disappeared. Had an international jumpseater today who 1. Didn't email Capt 2. Didn't do the typical "can I catch a ride" on the meet and greet. 3. Assumed he was getting a rack in the rest can, instead of asking Capt for use just asked RFO which rack he wanted.. Not to mention the supersized bag and golf clubs...Guess I'm old school but a lot of new guys seemed to have dropped the standard etiquette. In the scheme of things I don't think it is a huge issue and I'm not saying we should go back to the bring cookies days but some common curtesies would be nice.

Maybe a nice chat from the Capt would of sorted this out?

Sounds like this was one person one time. Been here a bit now, and My jumpseaters certainly don't seem any less considerate over time.

Yeah, that happened and hopefully that jumpseater takes it onboard, just seemed to be a trend

My favorite is when they brag about being on draft, saying how tired they are because of their extension and then use the rest area without asking and then complaining we did not wake them early enough so they could cook their food before we land and then not put their durty linnen in the dirty linnen bag. That was special. Please and thank you go a long way.

Thats unfortunate and hopefully a one off event. But is it worse then kicking a jumpseater off your for your OAL husband even when there was an additional seat?

When I was new I was grateful to have a Captain explain the etiquette and culture here. That kind of mentorship and advice isn’t always explained during OE and goes a long way in keeping this a good place to work for everyone.

And the MD-11 cockpit is pretty cramped, so having another pilot up there for 6hrs would have really been inconvenient.

Must’ve missed that day in BI.

Lead by example and council when necessary. Don’t ***** on APC. Come on, I figured you senior FOs to have figured this out by now.

I thought FedEx didn’t allow international offline jumpseat, so was this an FedEx employee? Perhaps then educate them internally on how to behave.
