FedEx Interviews and Class Dates

Hey SayAgain -
You know that the sarcastic response posted by threeighteen was about ramp workers and people that throw boxes, right? FedEx has one of the best records ever of hiring people who are loyal to the company. I have flown with many widebody captains who started with FedEx by throwing boxes in the summer during their college break and got hired as a pilot as soon as they had the PIC minimums.
And the fondness for Blue Angles, Astronauts, and Squadron Commanders is no different - FedEx wants to hire people who will WORK for the company. Not just work, but will go the extra mile to make things happen. People who believe in the company, and want it to succeed. It is people like that who made FedEx what it is today.
Can you be a slug and do the min here? Of course. Can you advertise that you are a slug and get hired here? No way.
From reading your other posts you seem like a good guy Say Again, and I think we'd have a good time on a layover some time. But dial back the regional guy anger for a while. Not everyone is out to get you.

Not sure where you're coming from with the boxes comments. I was seriously thanking Fedex for looking at us older pilots with experience. Like I said a couple years ago several f/o's with no 121 pic headed to Delta while more experienced people with thousands of hours of pic were passed by.
And not trying to make this a military vs. civilian thread either. It's clear that Fedex can hire very qualified people. A lot of us at my regional put in paperwork when the window opened in Jan 2011 and are patiently waiting our turn.
And yes I am a good guy.

Could you please clarify who these individuals are that never sat right seat because I don't know them. Are you suggesting military/fighter type pilots?
My DAL class was 55% Part 121 regional, 25% military, and the rest corporate/private types. Of the military, most had heavy backgrounds (DC-10, B737, B707, BE1900, BE400, MU300, GIV, GV typed).
I know of two people (one at DAL, one at CAL) who did not have 1000 PIC when they were hired. They of course were related to high echelon management types.

And that's what I was curious about. Here's hoping as several at my regional have paperwork in, and it's been very quiet.

Now Fedex has a shrink, ala Delta, in the hiring process so that will muddy the waters even more. I heard that if you have too much flight time that counts against you. So suffice it to say that nobody has any clue on what it takes to get hired here. I guess the only thing you can do is apply, meet the mins, have a sponser and pray! Good luck to you!

Say, let me know if you figure out the rhyme and reason of how airlines hire. I've been with Fedex for a while and watched great guys/pilots not get hired and flown with some guys wondering how they got hired

Yep. First that was never sat left seat. They were hired direct out of the right seat to Delta. This was around 2010 when they opened the window briefly and hired a few. Caused some head scratching around my regional cause a lot of folks have been waiting years and felt, rightly so, that they had been passed by. On the other hand, if anyone can make the jump regardless of seat position more power to them.

To wonder is one thing. To expect to be hired over someone else is a bit ridiculous and is wasted energy. The person would be better served by focusing that energy on making their application/resume as strong as possible.
There are so many factors that determine who gets called and who doesn't. Perhaps the young FO networked and those skills paid off. Whether we like it networking is an essential part of landing our dream job.
