FedEx Hiring

So....if it doesn't happen to him, then why should he care? He should just shuddup and not talk about it?
If someone denies another pilot a ride (except for some bizarre, extenuating circumstance), they need to understand that other people will pass that information on, and people will consider them a tool. We are all in this together, and should be treating each other with consideration.

You are correct, we are ALL in this together and I'm more than happy to call someone out for a REAL transgression against a fellow pilot. But without names and details, this is just stirring the pot.

Because if it didn't happen to him, then he probably has NO idea what really happened or why it happened. So all he's doing is pitting one group of pilots against another. What's to be gained?

If you've spent much time on this forum, you'll notice there's a lot of pot stirring going on. This one is minor.
But I don't think people are going to name others here, and they shouldn't. It is a public forum, open to anyone. No problem giving details and names when one is talking to other crewmembers, but here, it's open to everyone.

Yeah ... it was back in WWII, we still had DC-3's and Flying Boats and ...
This guy only has 5 posts. Maybe we should pretend he's a known troll reincarnated with this new screen name?

Back to the hiring...
I keep hearing mixed messages from several current employees, job fair reps, forums etc.
Repeatedly I have heard the FedEx is "almost desperate" for pilots from people on the inside (I don't believe one iota). Further, I have heard on many occasions that I should expect a call from them any day since I have heavy Boeing and international time; not happening. Further, there are hundreds and hundreds of people just like me at Atlas/Polar, Southern, Florida West, foreign contracts etc.
I've also seen that, like always has been the case for FedEx, about 90% of new hires are current or ex-military.
Basically, what's the deal over there? I know hiring is ramping up, but what are they looking at? It's so HR algorithm driven that it's maddening. Unless someone can check about 12 boxes of check pilot/chief pilot stuff, it's seems unattainable.

I have an interview coming up. I'm a regional captain, check airman, with a couple friends who have been at the company less than 7 years. No heavy or international experience. I feel very fortunate and grateful to be in such great company.

Staffing
The latest new hire class still leaves us with 393 Pilots remaining to be hired from the original 586 unfilled vacancies from Posting 15-01. The number of Pilots turning 65 this year is approximately 81. Additionally, 116 Pilots have given notice that they will retire on December 31st, 2016 in accordance with the provisions of the new contract. With a total need for over 500 Pilots to be hired in the next 18 months, the opportunities to advance in seniority and/or seat position should be readily obvious to everyone in Flight Ops. Upgrades to the left seat will be very robust over the next 5-10 years as the system expands and retirements accelerate. While these numbers are subject to change, the overall picture is clear; sustained growth and advancement opportunities will be available to all FedEx Pilots for the foreseeable future.
Recruitment
Any great operation is successful because great People do great work. The recruitment and selection of those Employees is key to that success. In a review of our hiring practices, I’ve discovered many FedEx Pilots would like an opportunity to become more involved in the candidate selection process. Additionally, I know there is a lot of concern about the effectiveness of the referral process. All policies regarding the selection of our applicants are currently under review. However, it is important to note that our current hiring practices were developed to follow corporate employment policy, and adherence to that policy is a necessity. Thank you in advance for your support and patience while we work behind the scenes to ensure we are hiring the most qualified applicants.

The most difficult thing for most FedEx pilots is we all have "a very qualified" person we are sponsoring and we can't do anything to help. I know plenty of wide body captains that have been here for over 20 yrs that are wiling to go the distance to get someone an interview and nothing, crickets. The VP posted today that the current process is under review. Not sure what that means but the big mystery is how to get a golden Wonka ticket.
But with that said, there is no shortage of apps or people accepting the job offers for regardless of their background.
