I work for FedEx express part time as a courier and fly full time cfi and charter.....I'm pretty sure we need pilots right now badly. This last week alone we had our second memphis plane cancelled 3 days that comes into PHL because of pilot running out of hours. Our management tells us we don't have enough pilots right now, and that crews are running out of hours. Not sure how true this is and all? Any fedex pilot clarify this??

Pretty sure those cancellations this past week were due to the 2 winter storm events in MEM. Guys probably ran out of duty time (very long wait to de-ice) or no aircraft. We do need pilots due to the ongoing retirements and maybe some growth.

thanks for the reply....is it possible for an employee like me who has a BA degree and all my ratings done to come back to fly for fedex one day? Obviously I know that I have to go somewhere to build that multi PIC turbine time but would it be easier getting hired back once I reach minimums? It's been my lifelong goal to fly for fedex one day and have been with the company for over 10 years now. I'm doing everything I can to stick with the company as long as possible while instructing and charter flying. Any advice, suggestions, or help appreciated.

Of course it is! Keep building hours to make sure you meet all the quals. We have many pilots that threw boxes, etc. to get their foot in the door back when you got a preferred path to an interview. I don't think that's the case anymore; I'll let someone in the know about internal pilot hiring discuss that. Be persistent. Network with line pilots to maybe get a Personal Endorsement.

Thank You!! I was always wondering if fedex has or would have some type of career path program for employees who would want to fly for them one day.

What is the timeframe from CJO to class start dates lately?

I interviewed in the middle of May 2017 and got a CJO five days later. The days of same-day CJO after day two interview are over. I started class toward the end of July. So, for me it was a little over two months. It could be shorter for those willing to take Cologne or Hong Kong.

2018 is certainly going to be an interesting year for pilot hiring. With many big airlines increasing their needs, 420 jobs at FDX is simply amazing. That means for three years, FDX will have hired 30% of its pilot workforce. Crazy.

Latest is 450-500 new hires
