Valid points Raptor. However, although I'm not an economist, I have learned over time not to base my assessment of the health of the global economy on what the media says or the level of the DOW. We are all fortunate in that we get to travel all around the world working for a company whose source of income is a leading indicator in the health of the global economy. There is a lot more to this current stock hiccup than our own long past due correction. Keep an eye on those payload numbers over the next few months if you want a much better indicator of economic health than the media monkeys on (fill in the blank) news.

I can't copy the pdf slide. The IPA contract rode show slides from 2006 state a 4% pay increase after the amendable date

A point to remember is the back drop of the global economy and the industry during negotiations. The last 3-5 years, the industry and economy have been favorable from the pilots side to negotiate and good contract.

It could be a bit early to predict, but with currency devaluations in China and surrounding countries, China's economy and stock market falling off a cliff and creating a ripple affect in Europe and possibly the U.S., the proverbial window for negotiating a rock star contract could be closing. Only time will tell.

I can't express how many fingers and toes are crossed that this TA has some dramatically needed improvements in scheduling, accepted fares, retirement, compensation, etc.

However, if it doesn't and TA gets voted down in the Oct/Nov time frame, it is likely too late to seize the contract that we all desire. For it could be too late to negotiate improvements for TA 1.2 before Christmas 2015.

And this recent "economic window" for pilots "COULD" be closing.

Exactly.

I really want to vote YES and move on (but won't unless TA 1.0 reflects what we have earned). As you mention, a NO vote from the membership will not be without its own set of risks.

I hear what you're saying and respect your opinion. But, I think a large component of our TA compensation is what WE think we're worth...not what the economy thinks we're worth. I really think it's up to us to individually decide how unhappy we are with the current CRS games and many other factors.

A good or bad economy didn't bring us to this TA. The company did it themselves by mismanagement of the crew force and the pilots individually did it because of the loss of goodwill. Standing behind our negotiators and union has always been the key. The company looks right past the negotiators and MEC and sees what the crew force thinks/does. That's why companies in negotiations do direct dealing, direct communication, and such so often.

The pilots will determine if this TA is good enough. I frankly don't think the economy has much to do with it unless it gets extreme. Passing on a poor TA this time, we can still get a better TA that we deserve by our resolve. I'm hoping the company recognized this and our fears of the rumors of pi$$ poor raises is a false rumor. We'll see what value the TA brings and make our decision....unless the MEC sends it back (which would shorten the process to more negotiations than sending it to the pilots for rejection).

I read the article. This is my synopsis:

Having been on property only 4+ years, this is my first contract cycle. When I got here, there were very few guys complaining in general. I have seen this change over time; many are disgruntled about the lack of progress, flexibility in scheduling, and CRS using twisted language to change trips. Pilots are fed up with it. I love working at FedEx, but I would love to have a little stability and the assurance that what I signed on to fly is what I'm actually going to fly. I don't like the idea of guys sitting in initial indoc training getting a call and bailing on us because "Airline B" called them. I liked how it was when I got hired; I was in training for FedEx because it was the best. Management...fix this, before the Brand is damaged.

Glad to see you still have your Rose colored glasses on. Here at UPS people bail all the time and people complain after a month, not after four years. Because it's that bad. So count your blessings and don't sound like a Fred Smith Homie like all the 1980's Hires sound.

I looked and couldn't find it. The last year's contractual increase was about 4% which would explain the roadshow slide you saw. Don't see anything about an increase after the amendable date. However, I probably don't know the contract as well as I should...

Either way, FDX bro's and sista's get a contract while we are getting a strike authorization vote.. It's about to get interesting...
