Haven't done this in a while, but I have deviation money in August that I'm not gonna use, I'm thinking I can use it to buy a ticket home on the last Sunday of july bid period. Is this true? It's the same day that a trip ends in memphis at the end of July bid period.

 

Yes, you can definitely do that. However, that sounds like an expense that you should check the box "yes" as a taxable expense when you file your expense report.

 

Definitely gonna check the box, just wanted to make sure I can move bank money back into the previous month....one day back, that is.

 

Bank money doesn't move, it is tied to the month the expense was scheduled in. What you can move is the expense under certain circumstances.

Your ticket will need to be tied to your August expense report.

 

This is what I'm getting at. I guess when the July expense report comes out, I have to move that ticket into the august report? I kinda remember doing that a while back, but couldn't remember the exact details.

 

Yes, that's correct. However, I think this next month is when they will apply up to half of the extra bank money forward or back, due to the new contract, will see how that one works out. Also looks like you don't initiate it, they do.

 

I have a few questions also about DHs also.

I have a 2 leg DH and want to cancel the first leg because it connects through my HOR airport. Is this considered a deviation? I also want to keep the ground transportation and hotel at the end of the second leg.
So far I have called travel and asked to cut out the first leg of the deadhead. I thought they would just cancel the first leg, but I still have two sets of tickets. Do I call travel to cancel the first set? If I do it on line I believe that will kick me into deviation status which I do not want to do.
Last question...how and when do I check in for the trip since I will not be taking the flight out of MEM?

First question is: does it layover at your home airport or just connect through there (same day)?

 

The new contract allows a deviation with a final check in to join the scheduled enroute. (I would ask specifically of CRS or your Fleet Captain when this is implemented though.)

You still deviate the first leg only. You have to buy a new, deviation ticket from your intermediate connection point though. You do your initial deviation checkin as normal. But, when you are at the gate for your scheduled connecting flight (in your case, the first leg from HOR) you perform your final check in. At that point you are now scheduled and protected just like you were on scheduled transportation. Your GT would still be there to the hotel.

 

First, you will be deviating. You will need to re-book your ticket. Anyone booking a ticket (you on the internet, a travel agent, Global Travel) can't just cancel the first leg and leave the second intact. You're changing the city of origin on your ticket, so it will need to be re-issued.

You can do everything you want to do online on the deadhead/deviation section of the website. Select the trip in question and navigate to the legs with the deadheads. Select the first leg to deviate and don't select the one you want to keep (this will keep the GT available on when you arrive). You will get a warning saying you are cancelling your ticket, which you are (see above). So, you will need to re-book the leg you actually want to fly. This can be done at the bottom of the deviation submission page. It has a choice "continue without ticket". You want one, so don't select that. Fill in the dates, city pair, etc and then submit. You'll get all the choice Global Travel has along with the prices. If you see the one you want, click on purchase and follow whatever prompts come up. These steps deviate you (cancel your ticket) and buy your deviation ticket at the same time. So, you never even need to call GT - works like a champ. You can continue the deviation without the ticket and call GT to book your deviation ticket if you prefer, but there's no real advantage to doing that unless you have some kind of issue with the tickets you see available online.

As far as check-in, you need to do your initial check-in online within 60 hours of departure. Final check-in (also online) when you're within 100 NM of the city you're deviating to. Normal ops.

The option to check-in at the departure gate for the second leg and "pick up" the scheduled deadhead so you're protected in the event of delays on that flight hasn't been automated yet, from what I can see in the contract. There is no implementation date indicated. You may want to call ALPA contract enforcement and ask them the status. You could also just do this and try calling crew scheduling when you get to the gate and see if they take your check-in or at least acknowledge you're now on the trip. Either way, have some back-up options to get where you need to go and you'll be fine.

Since the current contract actually has specific language in it addressing this situation, one would think you should be able to get some help with any travel issues once you're on the scheduled DH leg (whether it's been automated or not).
