DAB is Daytona Beach right?
Are people really saying that if you go to ERAU in DAB that you won't be around any girls?
Who cares if there aren't any girls at the school....you are SURROUNDED by girls everywhere else!
I use to say the same thing about single guys complaining about going to Beaufort, SC for their first tours.
I'd tell them that Charleston SC was 45 minutes north and Savannah GA was 45 minutes south.
If you can't meet a girl in either of those southern hot spots then you have bigger problems than just being in a small town - or in the case of ERAU - being at a predominately guy school.
IMO.
I'm sure that there are MANY other valid reasons not to go to ERAU in this economy but I'm thinking that lack of girls in your classes should be down at the bottom of the list.

Read my last post, I disagree, your missing the entire college exp., and paying a ton of money for it. Also this is NOT the military, believe it or not civilian life is VERY different, esp. at that age. I met alot of girls in classes, activities, and parties full of friends. Being at Rutgers, I did not take the 45 minute train to NYC to meet girls. It is just a very different connection, and if you have not been there, then you most likely just wont get it.

Ahhhh...Rickt86....what are you talking about?

Where did I say that you weren't missing the entire college experience? I specifically said that there were MANY other valid reasons not to go to ERAU; what I said was that lack of girls in your classes ought not be a deciding factor when you are living in a town like Daytona Beach, FL! Unless you are LIVING in the dorms (or whatever they might have) and holding up like a hermit, I'd be willing to bet that you could get out in town and met plenty of girls of whatever caliber you are attracted too.

Where did the military play into this discussion? Rickt86 - you aren't telling me anything about the college experience that I haven't already lived. I went to a **regular** college and enjoyed all of the fine examples of every realm of college life; so I'm not sure what you are trying to get at with the "civilian life in VERY different..." comment.

If I haven't been where then I won't get what Rickt86?
If we want to play BTDT - maybe you are the one at all of 23 years old that doesn't quite get *the picture* I've been here and there in my days. I've got a pretty good overall picture of what you're trying to say.

To all of those deciding your college fate on whether there are girls in your class when you are surrounded by a town full of them at DAB - then I'd suggest that you reexamine your priorities and get out of the dorm room, away from your 5 guy roommates in your 2 bedroom apartment, off the couch playing PS3 or XBox, and get out and enjoy the sights and sounds all around you. You might even run into someone that you click with outside of class, at activities outside of class, and at parties outside of class

Enjoy.

Sir, I have to respectfully interject some points I feel strongly about...

Yes, I am saying that you won't be around many girls at DAB ERAU... and even less decent looking ones.

As far as surrounded by girls elsewhere... yes if you go to University of Florida or some other normal place. Waking up an hour and a half away at some sorority house didn't do great things for my GPA (but it sure was fun)

Pilots' and ERAU students' reputations have been severely tainted for years by 18 year old mavericks who wear their David Clarks to the local bars (and yes it does actually happen).

Local girls are a hazardous situation... DAB is a scum-fest...and most have diseases not many people can pronounce. (how do I know that?... well...that's another story for another rainy day)... and most like I said before have been tainted by dates consisting of watching star-trek marathons. Others ladies are under-age...severely over-age... or require a small fee.

And my final point, which I will close with Sir.... I believe that going to ERAU actually starts to kill your 'mojo'. ... I've seen it happen to many good friends.

Here again we seem to be talking about two different things. I am not talking about the girls AT ERAU - I'm talking about the girls that might be at the other 5 colleges that are scattered around within a 2 mile radius (except for the Palmer College of Chiropratic which seem to be about 5 miles away). I'm sure that they go to the same bars that you have access too for example. Pretend that I am saying that ERAU is an ALL MALE school (which from the descriptions sounds like it might be) - you're telling me that you can't get out on the local economy (girl economy I'm talking about here) and find a date? Again - it sounds like there might be *other* problems there. I'll use another *extreme* example. SOMEHOW - the young MALE cadets at the Citadel in Charleston were able to find dates outside of the school and on schedules/demands on their time that I'm sure surpassed what ERAU students deal with on a regular basis. (I'm talking about a time BEFORE they allowed female cadets here)

As far as surrounded by girls elsewhere... yes if you go to University of Florida or some other normal place. Waking up an hour and a half away at some sorority house didn't do great things for my GPA (but it sure was fun)
Well...you have to practice Operational Risk Management on those overnighters and decide if they are worth the hit on your GPA.

Pilots' and ERAU students' reputations have been severely tainted for years by 18 year old mavericks who wear their David Clarks to the local bars (and yes it does actually happen).
Sounds like people that you hopefully wouldn't have to compete against the attentions of the ladies. Yes - I saw Officer and a Gentlemen too and everyone was warning the ladies of getting involved with the pilot candidates Sort of like real life Pensacola. I'm sure that if your a nice enough guy that you could proabably break through any stigmas associated with ERAU.

Yeah - I've heard those same stories about every girl that lives within a 50 mile radius of a military base. If you want to use that as an excuse then go ahead. I don't buy it. If there are young men getting dates and meeting nice girls around Twenty-Nine Palms, CA - then you can do the same in Daytona Beach, FL. If you are still having problems with "scum-fest" - maybe you are looking in all the wrong places

And my final point, which I will close with Sir.... I believe that going to ERAU actually starts to kill your 'mojo'. ... I've seen it happen to many good friends.

Then your goal would be to not let it kill yours.
Hey - this is all my opinion.
I've never been to the ERAU campus in Dayton Beach - or any other campus; but I have been to a lot of much more out-of-the-way places that Daytona Beach and there always seem to be some fauna and flora around

Best of luck ryan1234.

USMCFLYR

PS - I don't think you are in this group ryan1234 - but Daytona Beach College at 1200 W International Speedway Blvd, Daytona Beach, FL has a student population of nearly 12,500 of which over 7,250 are females (58%) - more than ever before.
GO GET'EM BOYS!

I guess we'll agree to disagree.

I had your opinion through out school. I was amazed when I was actually treated like a paying customer while getting my MEI outside of riddle after graduation.

riddle takes advantage.

USMCFLYR,
The ability to go out on the prowl in DAB is there obviously, there are however less targets available. You just have to work a bit harder when the spring breakers aren't in town, i.e. drive an hour or so or 'fight the stigmas'. That is NOT part of an 18 y/o's expectations when considering a school. It is what it is, but it is not anywhere near a normal school on the social scene.

When I took my wife to the campus this past summer we saw a concert and cook out being thrown by some campus organization. It was a pretty neat gig but out of the 200 or so people there there were very few females. I asked my wife if anything seemed out of place and she quickly replied..."you're right, there are no women at this school". The crowd was mostly males. It's a small school in a relatively small town. Spring break is fun but only lasts a short time. Prospective students should be aware of what they are giving up.

If you had your choice would you want to go on a strike with only a 3 man team or have a call for fire on a group of 20 enemy hiding in a hadji mud hut? Sure it'd be challenging to take out the 3 but you have a much better chance of some target effect with the larger group.

I ramble.. it's late. Time to stop.

USMCFLYR not to be rude but I think you just dont get it

If I had gone there, ya I could meet some local girl and get a date, and be that guy from the other school and kinda meet her friends.........or I could goto the big school, know people she knows, and actually cross friend her friends and have much more interlinking lives, if she doesnt work, there are 14,000 other girls in a 2 mile radius. Also I got my D1 football team, tailgating football games, the joy of having a good team, post season bowl games. Also because I am at a school of 26K I have awesome activities, like student govt or any political org you want to be part of, or activity that interests you, full of more girls/cool people. I have a city 1 mile large with 100's of house parties, not just bars, with house parties full of girls as well as people I KNOW, and this happens every thur/fri/sat. I mean the girls I crossed beyond friends with in college where from group projects for classes, student activities I was involved in, sporting events, house parties, friends parties, friends pre games to sporting events, post games, just hanging out among friends, but rarely just going out to the bar. I personally am very happy I went to a D1 school, and the people I talk to that did Emer. rid did not enjoy college like I did.

Well I obviously don't get it because you are still talking about the school and I'm talking outside of the school.
Rickt86 - you seem to think that I am advocating going to ERAU. I am not.
I'm saying that if someone can't get a date in Daytona Beach then he has bigger problems than going to school. For those of you still struggling to find that date in Daytona Beach - best of luck to you.
ERAU is not a Division I school experience; but the guys that did go there seem to want to find every excuse under the sun why they couldn't find a girl it seems. Finally - sorry if I ever gave you the impression that I was comparing ERAU to a *regular* college. I'm certainly no recruiting poster buy for ERAU - especially in these times.

Hobbit - at no time in any of my responses did I advocate that ERAU was a *normal* school experience on the social scene. The real question in our opposing views would be to go to the local social scene and then ask your wife if there were no girls around. Like I posted in my thread - a college that is about 1 mile away with a 58% population of females is pretty good odds and what MOST would call a targer rich environment. Btw - you lost me on the whole mud hut and strike group thing. I'm single seat! The fewer the better.

But I tire of trying to convince you guys to go outside of the school and look for female companionship I'd rather spend my time thinking of ways to keep guys at ERAU away from my daughter!

USMC - we are still not communicating, the huge point is, while in college I never WENT OUTSIDE my college! My College life was all within my college, even if Rutgers was in downtown Miami, I never woulda went outside college. I would have HATED college if I went to a college that required me to go outside the college.
