Default Utah Valley State College

Im looking to begin the online degree program with them, I would love any info on how the course work goes and the level of difficulty. I will be working full time and trying to study for the actually flight training at the same time. I have heard good and bad stories about the course, any information is greatly appreciated.

Sorry airlines won't go for that crap. Get a real education not a drive thru one.

I hate to break the bad news too you but if its an Accredited School the airlines don't care and usually don't know if you earned it online sitting on reserve or on a campus getting stoned between classes.

Utah Valley State runs a good online aviation degree, hardly a drive-thru, with many of your flight hours and ratings counting toward credits, I believe up to 36. I know quite a few people in aviation with this degree. Stay away from Riddle, you are getting no more of an eduaction and paying top dollar.

The toughest part seems to be getting someone on the phone that is capable of getting you started. I have the impression that they have students manning the income calls.

Generally I agree, a real one is better than online, but if you can get an online (distance learning) degree from a REAL university with name recognition that should be fine...the degree will not specify that it was online and they will probably not think to ask.

But any 4 year degree is better than not having one.

I'm in the final year of my BS in Aviation Science at UVSC. I am a non-traditional student, returning after a 20 year break. The courses I have taken on-line through UVSC over the past three years have been very good, I believe these classes are as good as the courses I took at Georgia Tech and Macon Jr College, 20 years ago. On-line courses can be hard and you have to be very focused. Most of the courses I have taken can usually be finished in half the semester, but you have to spend 1-2 hours a day during the week and 8-10 hours a day on the weekend, working on your studies. All courses are self paced, so if you start on day one or week 14, it doesn't matter (on most courses), the only requirement is that they are completed in the 15 week semester (10 week during the summer). I work full time, 40+ hour a week, take 9-12 hours of classes per semester and have maintained a 3.7+ GPA the entire time. So as I said before, it is a very good school, with good quality classes and instructors, but you have to be able to focus and keep yourself on track. If you need any other course specific information, you can find it at www.uvsc.edu and www.aviationuniversity.com (the aviation distance learning side of UVSC).

I am also starting the UVSC global aviation program. I think it's a good idea if you want to be able to flight instruct full time or move onto regionals and finish a degree at the same time. If you have good grades in the past you should ask them about the academic merit scholarship. They will send you the form and you fill it out...no essays needed. I got $2800 for the year and my gpa from previous college was probably around 3.8. I think all you need is a 3.2 or better. Tuition is a hell of a lot cheaper than most state schools too.

I'm working on my bachelors at University of Phoenix, but not online. They have a few campuses in Atlanta. I sometimes wonder the same thing, if the airlines will care that is was UoP because they are famous for online classes, even though most of the students are not online students. Online isn't a drive thru education. you have to log on about 6 days a week, and always have to be working towards your goal. it sucks if you ask me.

I am a current Instructor and graduate at UVSC. I would be happy to answer any questions you may have. PM me if you are able, if not post them.

I'm also looking at UVSC to continue my education. I have two years of college already, but am potentially looking at UVSC and their concurrent degree program with ATP to simplify things in the future. My question is as follows: For example, the FedEx requirements dictate a degree from an accreditied college or university. Is UVSC accredited? If so, by whom? Will FedEx, or the other majors, accept this? How would one locate this information?

Yes UVSC is accredited for information see: http://www.uvsc.edu/visitors/aboutuv...editation.html

There are UVSC graduates that now fly for all of the companies you have listed above.

You can see www.uvsc.edu for more information or www.flyuvsc.com

UVSC is one of Utah's fastest growing schools and will make the change from a State accredited college to a state University in the next few years.
