I just don't want to get into trouble. I keep it all very nice and neat. However I"m a little worried if an airline asks for something besides my logbook. Our 172 only has a tach and I go off my watch. So sometimes when I"m going pattern for an hour I log an hour but the tach shows .7-.8. I know this sounds like a little but dealing with IFS i have tons of students and tons and tons of pattern. Doing .8 5 times in a day makes 1hr that isn't on the aircraft sheets. After a year of it that's white a lot of unaccounted for time.

dont worry, there not gonna go pull aircraft records to verify your logbook.

ive flown planes with only a tach(and even that was broken) as well and i just looked at my watch to get the time i put down in my logbook

It is understood that tach is not accurate time, so you can always pad the tach time by about x1.2 or x1.3

You are also totally within your rights to use your watch instead of tach time. If you have a hobbs you should log that so your records match the aircraft records.

An airline is unlikely to ever attempt to research any records other than your logbooks unless they think something is really fishy after you are hired. However, if you have an incident the FAA is very likely to go back in time...and if anything looks funny then they will really start to dig.

What about in the summer when you could fly thru like 10 little popup clouds in a half hour?
